Chapter 9

What Happened?
Chaos
Whatever you'd been expecting, it wasn't for a hideous green shape to leap from the rooftop and tackle the warrior, distracting him momentarily as the angy goblin got to his feet again, but you could see him holding his side as blood leaked out.
But within seconds more goblins poured over the walls and roofs, all jumping on to the warrior who was swinging his sword wildly, managing to fend off the swarm for the moment.
But you made the most of this shift in numbers to grab the crossbow on the ground and fire it at girl, who 'eep'ed and dove to the ground.
A few of the advancing goblins followed your example and sprinted across the yard at her, intending to end her while she was still helpless, but the hooded figure, Shadowblade intercepted them, bringing his dagger down in an arc that ended them in a swirl of dark sparkles.
This only seemed to further anger the main goblin, who screeched again, barreling into the fray, ignoring his bleeding wounds as he brought a clawed hand down on Shadowblade, leaving a shallow scratch across his face.
You fumbled with the crossbow, trying to reload it to help when you watched the gnomish girl mutter a few words and hold out her crystal bird. It glowed for a second and then Shadowblade's wounds healed.
Deciding on your target, you threw the cross bow to the side, and pulled your new short sword out, charging the girl.
Neither Shadowblade nor the warrior could stop you as the goblins harried them, the angry goblin even managing to reclaim his crossbow as he fended off the hooded figure's dagger.
"I'm really sorry about this." You apologized as you fell on her, bringing your sword down and cutting deeply into her midsection.
"Hey, leave Myra alone!" The warrior bellowed as he turned towards you, seemingly ignoring the goblin crawling all over him. He tried to reach you but one of the goblins got a lucky bite in, sinking their gnarled teeth into the back of his leg as he winced, nearly falling before Myra stuck out her hand again, focused on keeping her fighter alive.
"Chosen of the Lord, be healed!" She commanded as the same glow came from her bird.
Whether the power came from her or the bird, you had no intention of letting her keep undoing your hard work.
"I'll take that." You said, grabbing hold of the bird as you felt a warmish spread down your arm, the tightness in your chest vanishing within moments as the gnome tried to wriggle free of you. It wasn't to be however, as she chose her last action to be healing her friend rather than herself, and the next swing of you blade sunk deeply into her stomach as she coughed up some blood before falling out, a golden light overtaking her as she vanished, leaving only a small satchel and the crystal bird still in your hand.
Level Up! You heard a soft ding and felt a warmth overtake you for a moment.
You let the euphoric feeling overtake you, only for the frantic sounds of battle to rip you back to reality as you scooped up the satchel and pocketed the crystal as you returned to battle.
Now that their healer was dead, you could see them being more cautious so as not to take too much damage, but the goblins didn't seem to care, rushing into a swinging blade without concern for their health.
You considered helping the swarm of tiny goblins slowly being eviscerated by the warrior, but the hooded figure still seemed like the easier fight as you barreled in.
Whether your footsteps were unheard, or he was too distracted with fending off the angry boss goblin, it didn't matter, one swing of your blade sunk into his side as he winced, swinging at you without looking as he tried to jump back.
"Terry, I need -AARGH!" His cry for help was cut short as an arrow bolt blossomed from his shoulder as he landed heavily, his face sweating as the tolls of battle caught up with him.
You, however, were still feeling that high of leveling up and gave chase immediately, wanting to taste that overwhelming power again as you attacked like a man possessed, Shadowblade's dagger barely able to hold you back, it seemed even now he outclassed you in terms of strength.
"Tony! I'm coming, just let me through you fugly shits!" The warrior ordered, apparently fed up with the swarm of goblins harrying him as he pulled his second blade free and began spinning around, his blade barely visible as goblin bodies were sent flying before disappearing into dark motes.
"I told you my name is ShadowblaAAGH!" His friend tried to refute, only for your sword to catch him in the leg, blood dripping from the wound. You had no intention of letting him join up with his friend though, and before he could recover, pulled your own dagger out in the offhand, stabbing it into his gut.
You repeated this several times, sinking the blade into him until you heard the sound of metal hitting stone as you realized he'd vanished in the same golden light as the gnomish girl, only a small satchel left behind.
