Chapter 4

How does she get there?

Catch a ride

“Em could’ve at least given me some bus money. How am I gonna get to storage now?” April wrapped her arms tightly to herself as she ran to the storage, trying to ignore the comments from the onlookers.

“Little underdressed, aren’t we?”

“You sick freak! Think of the children!”

“Too flat for my taste, But I can’t complain.”

That last comment grabbed her attention. “I am not fla-“

Not looking ahead as she ran, she ran straight into a garbage can, knocking it and herself over.

“Not flat, you said. Not from where I’m looking.” Laughed one of her neighbors.

“What?” April was confused, until she saw a white towel lying on the ground. A very familiar towel. After a loud yelp she quickly grabbed her towel and wrapped herself in it. “Some guys think they’re quite sizable, okay?”

“For gnomes, maybe.” Added another neighbor.

“God, I hate this neighborhood.” She moaned as she continued running.

Catching her breath at the end of the street, she spoke to herself. “I can’t continue like this. I need a ride, and fast.” Then she gasped as she saw her salvation.

The car of mister Hughes.

Mr. Hughes was an elderly man who visited a park near the storage on a daily basis. Every day around this time he’d take his car to the park. She could ask him to drop her off, which would be absolutely mortifying. However, there was a plan b. The trunk of the car was poorly attached. She could climb in the back, and jump out when he arrived.

What does April do?
