Chapter 22 by ThomasMoro ThomasMoro

Meanwhile, what is happening to Buffy-in-Faith?

Buffy-in-Faith finds herself in an awkward situation

If there was anything Buffy-in-Faith hated more than being naked, it was being naked in a room full of vampires. Worse yet, she didn't even have any weapons with her in case one of them recognized her and cried, "There she is! Let's get her!"

Buffy-in-Faith supposed that she could always improvise and create her own weapons if she had to. But she was so outnumbered... Would she have the time? Would they give her the time?

So far none of the vampires seemed to recognize her and indeed, Buffy-in-Faith saw no familiar faces in the crowd. She reminded herself that she was in Faith's body now and that Faith's body was likely to be less familiar to the average Sunnydale vampire than her own body. Not to mention the fact that most of the local vampires who had met Faith tended to end up dead -- which meant that they were not in the best position to pass on information about potential Slayers.

Buffy-in-Faith was a bit disappointed that the art teacher did not seem to detect anything unusual about his students. All her life Buffy-in-Faith had been hearing stories from her mother about how perceptive artists were -- yet this poor man did not seem any less clueless about vampires than the average human Buffy-in-Faith met in Sunnydale.

Halfway through Buffy-in-Faith's shift, it became increasingly obvious that none of the vampires was going to do anything more ominous than drop a paintbrush. Indeed, Buffy-in-Faith found herself feeling a bit insulted. Here she was, this big bad vampire slayer, and none of these bloodsuckers had even recognized her. She was supposed to have this big reputation for being the type of thing that gave monsters nightmares and now that she was in the room with a whole bunch of them, the poor dears seemed to be this close to suppressing a yawn.

Where was Spike? Where was Drusilla? Where was someone who could give her a real challenge?

Buffy-in-Faith found herself feeling so upset that she forgot to be embarrassed about being naked.

She was just on the verge of standing up and making an announcement when suddenly a short-haired brunette who looked very familiar stomped into the room.

"Where is she?" she shouted. "Where is the blonde skank who posed for all those paintings out in the hall?"

"I beg your pardon," said the art teacher.

The brunette held up a naked painting of Buffy's old body -- the one now occupied by Faith. "I'm looking for the woman who posed for this. She used to be my roommate and she owes me big-time for what she did to me."

"I take it Ms. Summers borrowed money from you," said the art teacher.

"In a manner of speaking," said the brunette. "Where is she?"

"Well, as you can see," said the art teacher, pointing to Buffy-in-Faith, "she's not here at the moment. Right now we're using a different model. But if you come by in the daytime, there is a slight chance that you might catch up with her. Shall I give Ms. Summers a message, Ms. -- I'm sorry, I didn't get your name."

The brunette smiled -- but not in a nice way.

"The name's Newman," she said. "Kathy Newman."

What happens next?
