Buffy-in-Faith's dilemma

Oh my God, thought Buffy-in-Faith. I have to warn Faith.

Warn Faith about what? asked an inner voice.

Warn her about my old roommate Kathy Newman, of course, thought Buffy-in-Faith.

Why do you have to warn Faith about that? asked the voice.

Because Kathy is obviously out for **** because of how I fouled up her plans to stay here in Sunnydale, thought Buffy-in-Faith. If she catches up with Faith, she'll kill her.

Oh, don't be so melodramatic, said another voice in Buffy-in-Faith's head. Kathy won't kill Faith.

She won't? thought Buffy-in-Faith.

No, said the voice. No, she'll simply do with Faith what she tried to do with you; she'll steal her soul and then send her to live in an unspeakable hell dimension.

That's hardly an improvement over killing her, thought Buffy-in-Faith.

Well, what can I say? asked the voice. Perhaps Kathy will just settle for swapping bodies instead and then send Faith to live in an unspeakable hell dimension. Anyway, what has Faith done for you lately that you care so much what happens to her?

Good point, said the other voice. You've spent all this time talking about how you wanted to get back at Faith. Here's your big chance.

But I didn't want to get back at her like this, thought Buffy-in-Faith.

Well, beggars can't be choosers, said the first voice.

You got any more clichés like that? thought Buffy-in-Faith. Anyway, if I let Kathy take Faith's current soul or body, then I'll never get my old body back.

There's my girl, said the first voice.

Yeah, deep down I always knew you had a selfish motive, said the second voice.

Hey, I always thought a person's inner voices were supposed to encourage them to do the right thing, thought Buffy-in-Faith.

Well, that depends, said the first voice. On whether the voice in question is an angel or a devil.

Which one of you two is the angel? thought Buffy-in-Faith.

She is, the two voices said simultaneously.

Meanwhile, Kathy Newman was strolling through the campus, pondering her next move. She had only a few days to track down her old roommate and if she didn't, she would have to return home. And she did not want to return home. It had cost her so much to come here in the first place. And once her father had showed up and took her home, it had cost her even more to find a way to come back.

This time she was staying, no matter what. And if Buffy and her friends had a problem with that, then too bad for them.

In the meantime, she needed to find a place to think. Preferably a place with not too many people around. Like maybe the park. Or better yet, the cemetery.

Yes, the cemetery. That seemed like a good place for Kathy to go.

And who knows?

Perhaps while Kathy was there, she would come up with a solution to her problems...
