Buffy The Vampire Slayer

It was another unremarkable day at the University of Sunnydale. Classes were done for the day, students hurried about, it was 4 p.m. and almost time for dinner to start. People had places to be.

Jonothan Levinson walked across the campus with his head down. He was once again contemplating doing something stupid. And he knew it was stupid. But he couldn't handle being invisible again. He didnt need to be a Superstar again but he couldn't handle being less than nothing.

If he hadnt been staring at the pavement as he walked towards his dorm he probably would have missed it. But he was looking down. He did see it. He couldn't not see it.

A book fell from the sky. It hit the ground. The book fell open and pages flapped in the wind.

Only that wasnt all it did.

It fell from the sky, yes, but trailing light like a comet. It hit the ground, yes, but shattered the pavement. It fell open, yes, but the pages exposed glowed briefly and the hand written words on the page had an irridescent sheen to them before seemingly burning themselves into the page.

Jonothan looked down at the book. Then up at the sky. Down. Up. He looked around and for some reason the fifty or so other people out and about didnt seem to notice anything.

Knowing enough to be cautious but still young enough to be stupid Jonothan moved to the book and picked it up. Holding it out as delicately as he could he flicked thru a few pages. He brought the book closer as he continued to read. It wasnt that what was written down was interesting. In point of fact the writing was.... It was basically a list of rules. Impartially, disinterestedly, blandly stated rules.

But the not just any kind of rules, the kind of rules that defined reality.

Jonothan looked at the book. He looked at the cracked pavement where the book had landed. He looked up at the clear blue sky of a Sunnydale afternoon. He looked at his fellow students who didnt seem to notice anything strange happening.

This was obviously not a coincidence. Jonothan closed the book and quickly stuffed it into his backpack. The minute he gave into the idea of doing a small little itsy bitsy bit of magic to help himself out socially this book appeared. A book of cosmic rules that had plenty of blank pages left.

So obviously this was some sort of test? Right? He was being given power to see what he would do with it. Obviously. To see if he learned his lesson from his Superstar spell.

So how did he make sure he passed this test?
