Chapter 4 by Left Hand Man Left Hand Man

Well?

Branch Notes

As I said before, this is my first time writing and therefore I'm keeping it pretty simple. This means I'm mostly going off of what I saw elsewhere in this story and Dos Esh' s template, which they so graciously provided. There are a couple of mechanics notable in this branch, however.

Attributes: As mentioned previously, I'm mostly using Dos Esh's stat giude, but there a couple of changes I've made. I've split Endurence into two stats: Stamina and Defense. Before, Endurance opperated as an all purpose stat for determining stamnia, hitpoints, how much damage each attack (on the character with the stat) received and maybe a couple other things. In my version, Stamina determines things like how long the characters can exert themselves and hitpoints, while Defense affects how much damage the characters take when attacked. It's a similar situation with Dexterity. It used to effect movement speed, balence, and fine motor skills. In this branch, Dexterity only effects the later two. Movement speed is governed by Agility. The reason for most of these changes was that A) the other way didn't really make sense, and B) They made it really difficult to write the character I wanted to write without inventing traits and I didn't want to overwhelm the readers with complicated debuffs.

Skills: Dos Esh said they "mostly just used the skills from Exalted". Since I have no idea what Exalted is (except that it's presumably an RPG video game of some kind) I will just be using skills from other branches of the story and making up my own when necessary.

Feats: Pretty much the same as skills, really. I'm taking ideas from other branches and making up new ones when necessary.

Spells: Mostly the same as Skills and Feats. One thing I will note, however, is that I will be using manna and a manna pool and NOT the limited-number-of-spells-per-day mechanic, for the simple reason that I absolutely despise that mechanic.

Numbers and amounts of resources (such as fame, wood or stone) as well as rarity are going to be fairly important. Not hugely so, but you're gonna know how much Stone, say, that the lair required to be upgraded, or if a special feature needed a specific gemstone to upgrade. Also, there's going to be a fairly large focus on recruitment and base building. Don't worry, there will be plenty of excursions and adventures to satisfy your wanderlust, it's just that most of them will have a clear, stated goal in mind at the beginning.

Above all, please read and enjoy!
