Chapter 4 by Ganti Ganti

If additional AN happen, they'll be here.

Branch AN, Part 2

The Arcane damage typing is something I also borrowed from BfW like most undead Cledwyn can call upon; it's effective against a whole host of things, most of them not living creatures as we know them- The undead, summoned units, golems, fey and the like. My headcanon is that it shreds the spells and enchantments that keep them going, or at least on this plane of existence. Most living things have the parts that such spells would most directly effect inside of our squishy bodies, so they're less useful against us. Less useful is not useless, though- destructive magic trying to break something is still destructive magic. Having some holes punched in you, while a problem and likely fatal, is less of an immediate removal from the fight then, say, a golem reverting to a statue or a demon being tossed back into the Abyss.

Tag Vs. Subtype: The Monster tag has less to do with being a genuine monster or evil and more 'doesn't fit into what the gods/nobles/players would consider polite society'. Human is merely 'plays nice with the rules and/or doesn't make people panic about the dragon/skeleton/multi-eyed thing walking down the street'. Shards is, after all, a highly advanced VR game marketed to humans. An angel, for instance, would have the Monster tag- If they show up, something big is happening. A serial killer or cannibal, at least one that hasn't been caught yet, would have the Human tag- what they do is terrible, but unless you know about it, you're not likely to run and hide under your bed. This has killed players in the past.

I think I should have followed my original inclination and left the kiss between Cledwyn and Lyrissa happen AFTER the boss fight in the tower. Might still be pushing it a bit fast, but it feels decent there.

What's next?
