Chapter 16 by CamBlay CamBlay

Does anything happen during lunch?

Before that...

Victoria laughed as Kurt finished his story, the high, sweet sound momentarily stunning Kurt. He grinned ruefully, letting out a low chuckle of his own.

"That's insane!" she said. "What a weird guy!"

"Seriously," Kurt replied. "University can be wild if you end up in dorms with guys like him." Ahead of them Brandon and Ashley stormed along the trail, powering through the picturesque forest, illuminated by a sun that seemed newly energised from having broken through the storm, as though they actively hated fresh air and beautiful scenery.

"What's up with them?" Victoria thought to herself, oblivious to the body language that Kurt picked up on immediately. The two stood slightly apart, Ashley repeatedly turning to look at her boyfriend with an expression that looked far from adoring, while he didn't seem to look at her at all. Kurt chuckled inwardly; perhaps there'd be another girl for him to snag on the trip.

He looked briefly to his right, where Chloe drifted slightly behind him. He wasn't sure how open to anything she was when he and Victoria hadn't even been able to get her to say more than a sentence. They'd made every effort to include her in their conversation, but she was so resistant that it didn't seem worth the effort. Especially when it was so easy for him and Victoria to talk to one another.

"She's fucking gorgeous," he thought to himself. "And so innocent." She was practically the ideal for the romantic type, kind and naive. Kurt was far from romantic, but even so she was melting him a little. Not enough that the thought of sweet little Victoria with her big tits covered in his cum didn't push him back on the right track however.

"Why does everyone seem to think he's some kind of predator?" Victoria wondered. "He seems so dreamy." He'd affixed himself to her as soon as the walk began, but his relaxed and non-threatening demeanor quickly sent her confused emotions at ease. The more time they'd talked, the more it became apparent that maybe her response to him back in their shared room wasn't one to be scared of. She reflected on his expression when she'd laughed, one of genuine surprise, before it had folded into an almost shy chuckle. That surprise that she could find him funny was not a usual trait of a confident womaniser.

"I am a little worried about that," she said out loud. "That I'll end up at college and everyone there will be mean, or I just won't fit in."

"Why would you be worried about that?" Kurt asked. "You're a lovely girl, there's no reason for anyone to dislike you."

She glowed briefly at the compliment. "I don't know, what if we don't share the same interests."

"Like what?" Kurt said, taken-aback. "Are you only into weird things no one knows about?"

"No," Victoria shook her head. "Well, I mean... I like mystery novels. That's pretty weird isn't it?"

"Well, I like them for one," Kurt lied, hoping to use the backlog of Wikipedia plot summaries he'd memorised the night before upon learning the information from Heather.

Victoria blushed. "Oh my God I didn't mean to call you weird!"

Kurt laughed. "It's fine. What kind do you usually like?"

Victoria pondered for a moment. "Not so much murders. They're a bit gory for me usually, but... I guess stolen jewellery, missing people, secret codes. All that stuff." She laughed. "I do sound weird."

"My kind of weird," Kurt winked playfully. She laughed again.

"Actually," she dropped her voice to a low whisper, briefly looking around for Chloe. She spotted her, having dropped a few metres behind them while they were enraptured in conversation, far back enough that they could talk privately.

Kurt looked too, then guiltily back at Victoria. "Go on."

"I have a mystery I need help with," she started, putting on a conspiratorial voice. "The mystery of the slandered cousin."

Kurt looked surprised. "What cousin?"

Victoria seemed suddenly embarrassed. "Oh... well um... I don't want to make trouble actually."

"Is it me?" Kurt asked, before pretending to have an epiphany. "Oh, right, you must mean what they all say about me."

Victoria nodded in response.

He laughed, "It's fine. Yeah, it's true, I used to be a bit of a player. I say used to because, well, that was years ago now. Heather thinks I'm still that cocky, arrogant high schooler, but I'm not any more. I've grown since then, and I want the opportunity to prove that without being rejected out of hand, off the back of a years-old rumor."

Victoria looked sympathetically at him, reaching out gently to hold his hand. "I'm sorry you're treated that way. You don't seem like that to me at all, and I'll happily give you that chance." She may have loved mystery novels, but she was never very good at guessing the perpetrator, and Kurt was good at mixing lies with enough truth to make them believable.

He looked overjoyed. "Thank you." They were walking so close together now, both looking into each others eyes. Once again the urge from before filled Victoria, and this time she acted on it, standing up on her tip-toes to plant a kiss on his cheek. She blushed as she moved away, his expression stunned, before creasing into a smile. The smile vanished as shouting from further up the trail brought them back to earth, making him look suddenly in that direction.

"What's that?" asked Victoria. Kurt took off running, while Chloe stood mouth-agape, wondering how she'd tell Zack that Kurt was stealing his girl when he got back.

What's the noise?
