Battle Commences.

As Julieanne and Arerto looked on the warriors took up their positions at the wall and the trebuchets were manned and loaded with heavy rocks. The Trebuchets had been zeroed in to hit just over the wall and could either fire rocks or rocks coated in tar and then set a light. The archers remained hidden in the hills and would not fire unless the wall had been breached. Ballistas had been loaded and the rope that acted like a bowstring was pulled tight ready for the giant arrows to fly. Then, three figures approached under a white flag and Arerto recognised the two women as Isabella and Magda, the man she assumed was Marcus. The man then spoke" I am Marcus the leader of my people and we offer for you to surrender to us to save unnecessary bloodshed and ****. All we require is your commander Arerto to be handed over for crimes against my people." **Julieanna looked at the trio before replying. "Firstly Arerto no longer commands here she has been relieved. Secondly, my troops have nothing better to do this day so you can either go back to your city or surrender to us" **The trio turned around and headed back to their army while Julieanna smiled. At least I didn't lie cannot hand you over as you no longer command here.

The war drum beat and the forward line of enemy infantry advanced closely followed by three ranks of archers. Julieanna watched for the archers to raise their weapons. When they did she signalled the Trebuchets to fire their heavy rocks and they crashed down each being the size big enough to take out five or six men. The archers did manage to get one volley off before another set of rocks decimated them. However, that volley did kill or maim several hundred warriors. As the infantry got nearer they stumbled into the deep it before the wall-filling it up as they fell to the bottom climbing on each other to get out. The advance was broken and subsequent ranks fell back the way they had come until they were out of range of the amazons. Marcus was not pleased and immediately killed the infantry commander for his failure. He order wooden floors made to drop over the pit and showed no concern for the men who had fallen in the pit.

Arerto left the wall and walked among the fallen and wounded warriors watching as they were taken back to the healer's hospital. She found that Helena had discharged herself and headed to Arerto's tent and that is where she found her sitting on the cot. Arerto walked over and hugged her kissing and telling her not to worry. Helena smiled and said as long as Arerto was here she had no worries and she had no worries when he was held, prisoner. Arerto pushed her gently down on the cot and told her to rest while she went back to Julieanna. She found Julieanna at the trebuchets praising them and she turned to Arerto asking what she thought the enemy would do. "They will lick their wounds but if I was Marcus I would be having my carpenters making wooden covers for the pit" Julieanna nodded in agreement and knew that once the covers had been laid the elephants would be close behind to batter the wall. Arerto suggested that they recall the archers and put sword and spears in the heights to protect the flanks. This was done and they prepared for round two.
