Battle continues.

The next morning in the early morning light the sentries reported enemy movement and Julieanna ordered Kriss to have the camp stand ready. She looked from the wall and saw that the enemy had indeed constructed wooden covers for the pit and behind them lined up were the war elephants replete with their armour on their flanks. The enemy advanced but this time the enemy archers stopped short out of range of the trebuchets but in range to angle their arrows just over the wall. Marcus signalled and the arrows flew he was hoping that they would keep the Amazon heads down while his troops positioned the covers. The arrows did have the desired effect as the amazons sort cover under their shields but some were hit and killed and some wounded. The enemy troops with the covers got to the pit and deployed the covers over the pit, The elephants then charged forward and the ground shook at their approach and it was at this time the enemy archers stopped.

The elephants crashed into the wall and with their strength and momentum, the wood started to creak and then splinter as the amazons took up their positions behind the three rows of archers. The wall finally gave out and the elephants stampeded through this was the moment that the ballista fired their large arrows hitting the big beasts with devastating accuracy. The narrow pass was littered with dead elephants and the amazon archers picked off their handlers just as another volley of enemy arrows rained down on the amazons who stood their ground. The enemy infantry had now been committed and was advancing and climbing over the dead elephants to be picked off by the archers. However, the enemy archers had taken their toll on the amazons and more and more enemy infantry was getting through. Kriss collected the remaining archers and moved them back into three ranks and waited for the advancing enemy troops.

Julieanna signalled the troop hidden in the heights and they swarmed down and cut the enemy archers down levelling up the situation. Marcus saw this and knew he risked losing his infantry. He sent in his cavalry and the battle was brutal as men women and horses coloured the dirt of the valley and pass in a crimson red. It was then that Marcus had the recall sounded and his troops retreated back to their lines collecting those wounded. Julieanna and Arerto looked at the devastation that had been the amazon camp. They had lost the wall but also around five thousand warriors killed and wounded and they estimated that the enemy had lost the same or a little more. They were still outnumbered at least three to one and would not survive another onslaught so after consideration, Arerto had an idea. Arerto knew that Julieanna would not be to ready to go along with her plan but it was the only way that any of their army would survive.
