Back to Work

James returned to work the next day with a bit more pep in his step considering that he scored a date yesterday. He stopped by to say hello to Susan when he noticed that she had her feet up on the desk while laying back in her seat with her eyes closed. He wondered if she was asleep. She wasn’t wearing her normal clothes either. Instead, she chose to come to work with a white crop top, large golden hooped earrings, and some tight blue jeans. James thought this was highly unusual as he approached her.

“Susan, are you awake.”

Susan's eyes opened, and saw James, “Hey, how’s it going?”

Susan stretched in her chair and let out a yawn as she removed her foot from the desk.

“I’m fine, are you okay?”

“Yeah, I’m fine. Nothing major is going on with me.”

James didn’t want to point out her obvious change in clothing or attitude compared to yesterday. Maybe she was going on strike for some reason. James decided to ask about something else.

“Did you give Rebecca the prize yesterday?”

“Yeah, but it did bother me that she snatched it out of my hands. The bitch needs to learn some manners.”

James wondered if this was the same person he was talking to yesterday. She seemed like an entirely different person.

“Do you have a twin sister I don’t know about?”

“Yes, I do, but is that any of your business.”

James was relieved. It all makes sense to him now. She was Susan’s twin sister, and she came to work in Susan’s place.

James smiled, “You’re Susan’s twin sister, and you came in to fill in for her, right?”

Susan was no longer at her job and in her place was her twin sister, Sarah. Sarah’s clothes shifted into a regular white t-shirt and her jeans changed from blue to black. She was confused as to how she was found out so easily.

James didn’t see her pants change color since it was below the desk but saw her shirt drop down to cover her midriff. James wondered how her shirt changed but figured that it was curled or tied up behind her.

“How did you notice that it was me?”

“I’ve been working with Susan for years. I think I know what she acts like.”

“I’m impressed. I thought you were just a random fat guy that works here.”

James looked a little hurt to be called fat by someone he just met even if knew it was true.

Sarah noticed, “Sorry, can’t hold my tongue sometimes. How about I treat you to lunch today to make up for it?”

James’s face brightened, “Sure, that sounds good.”

Rebecca made her way to work as usual when she ran into Zax. She cursed her own luck that she ran into him. Zax was one of the most annoying people at the company by far. He always asks her out on a date every time they see each other despite getting rejected every single time and knowing that she’s married. Not only that, but he was also always leering at her every chance he gets. Just seeing his face makes her sick.

“Hey Rebecca, you know my day suddenly got better because you’re now in it,” said Zax as he talked directly into her chest and not her face.

Rebecca scowled, “You’re disgusting, filthy, unredeemable trash, aren’t you?”

“No, of course not.”

Zax's creepy smile changed into an honest one as reality shifted. His professional attire shifted into a fancy black suit and his face changed to be dramatically more handsome as well. Rebecca didn’t know why she said something so untrue. Zax was one of the most handsome, kind people she knew. She hoped he didn’t think less of her considering that he always tried to help her out.

“Sorry, I don’t know what came over me. I guess I’m just stressed.”

“About what? If I may ask?”

Zax sounded so concerned and sincere that she just had to answer him.

“My wife was having some trouble at her job, and I’m worried that some pervert is going to take advantage of her. Is she going to be okay on her own?”

“I don’t think so, but then again, I don’t know the full details of what’s going on. I’m sure that as long as she has you in her corner, then everything will be fine.”

Zax smiled at her, and she smiled back. Zax was one of the few people she liked having around. Zax waved her goodbye as she made her way to her desk.

James and Sarah made their way to a nearby restaurant called Chef’s Kiss. After they were seated, Sarah initiated the conversation.

“Do you have any suggestions of what to get?” asked Sarah.

“I would recommend the barbecue ribs even though it’s a little messy. They tend to over sauce it a bit.”

“I don’t want anything that heavy. I think I’ll get the shrimp salad instead.”

“I think I’m going to go with the chicken alfredo.”

After the two of them figured out what they wanted, the waitress came by, wrote down their order, and left.

“Sarah, what do you usually do for work when you’re not filling in for your sister.”

Sarah smiled, “Why don’t we make a game out of it.”

“A game?”

“Since you were able to guess that I wasn’t Susan, then you must have strong observation skills. Why don’t you guess what job, hobbies, and any other information you might want from me, and I’ll answer honestly as an apology for earlier.”

James could see that Sarah is more playful and mischievous compared to Susan's more direct and sincere personality.

“Alright then.”

James had no reason to refuse after all.

“You must’ve had a job that allowed you to take a day off easily or is flexible to you. If I had to guess your job, then you must be a twitch streamer since you can choose when you want to work, right?”

Sarah nodded as her previous occupation of being a hairdresser was stripped away from her identity. All her knowledge of hair was stripped away as knowledge of video games flooded her mind.

“Correct, what do you think I do for fun, then?”

She was surprised that he guessed her job so easily, but there was no way he was going to guess she likes fishing as her hobby. There was just something relaxing about being on the open water with just her thoughts and the subtle shifting of the boat she was on.

“You seem like a party girl, so is dancing your hobby?”

“You’re good.”

The very existence of fishing was wiped away and was replaced with a variety of different dance moves. No style of dancing was off the table to her, and she loved to show off her skills any chance she got. Her body also became more toned from all the dancing she was doing, but James didn’t notice as he was wondering how he managed to guess two correct things about her back-to-back. There was one other thing he wanted to know, but it was a bit sensitive, so he didn’t know if she would answer.

“Are you a virgin?”

All the experience she got until now was washed away as her face turned red, and said mumbled that that’s private information. James was satisfied with that answer as he asked her why Susan didn’t come to work today. Sarah responded that he should ask her tomorrow.
