Today I am ashamed of my country.

I’m a middle aged cis pale male, with only a smattering of education, working a dead end job in a dying Midwestern town. I’m the definition of poor white trash. I have power fantasies, **** fantasies. I’m offended by the notion of (sexually) dominant females. I like guns. I eat meat. Most political correctness pisses me right the fuck off.

I’m literally the prototype for the MAGA army’s base.

It may surprise those who read my prose to find out that at my heart I am very much a liberal.

See, while my attitudes and beliefs are right for me, while I reek of toxic masculinity, while I think that as a society were prone to radically over correcting when we realize that we’ve completely fucked up… I know that it’s not up to me.

What I fantasize is kept in my head or put on paper or in an electronic format here for you to read. I’ll never try to tell any of you that I have the right to act out any of those fantasies. I’ll never try to tell you that you’re sick or wrong or even weak for enjoying your fantasies.

I’m pro choice. I don’t like the idea of abortion… I’m adopted, and was born during the reign of Roe v. Wade. I’m lucky to be alive. But it’s not my fucking body.

I was raised Catholic. These days I’m not quite an atheist but I’m also definitely not Christian. I won’t tell you that you can’t believe in your Sky Daddy/Mommy of choice.

But the people that the United States have put in power, not just the pathetic Cheeto-looking 78 year old walking lump of cholesterol, but a plethora of Senators and Representatives…. They want to tell you what you can and can’t do. They want to act like a frat brother at a house party, but replace his dick with his religion when he tries to shove it down your throat when you’re not paying attention.

What we do here… sharing our fantasies, our perversions… it doesn’t fall into their worldview as something that is acceptable. We’re perverts and sinners. We’re all damned.

Did you know that in 2003 the Supreme Court of the United States effectively outlawed anti-sodomy laws? Did you also know, that although they aren’t enforced there are still 14 states where those laws are still on the books? That some of those laws actually punish oral sex? How about sex between unmarried people? North Carolina actually groups them in with ****. 14 states. That’s more than 20% of the country.

In 1986, during the tenure in office of the US President whose economic policies would plunge the country and, to a lesser degree, the world into a financial crisis that we’re still trying to dig our way out from under (I’m looking at you, Reganomics…), the Department of Justice issued a 1,960 page document known informally as The Meese Report. This monolithic waste of paper was composed by a group including Evangelical ministers, Catholic priests, and most notably a man who would later become the head of an organization known as the Alliance Defense Fund. They’re sort of the opposite of the ACLU. Remember them. We’ll come back to them.

The Meese Report (officially the Final Report of the Attorney General's Commission on Pornography) became the DOJ’s de facto Bible when it came to dealing with porno and erotica. It contained a lot of biased and inaccurate information. And it gave the religious right all the ammo they needed to fabricate crimes related to porn and attempt to shut down all of the production of adult entertainment in the U. S. With the rise of the internet and the ease of digital filming us pervs have started to recover a bit from the damage that was done, but to this day it’s still felt quite strongly (and exemplified by the fact that almost all the professional grade porn in the US is now owned by three production companies).

We’re staring down the barrel of this again. Remember the Alliance Defense Fund? They call themselves the Alliance Defending Freedom now. They’ve been designated a hate group by a number of liberal legal organizations. And they’re, as a whole, one of Trump’s most trusted advisors, in addition to being behind the vast majority of the anti-trans laws that have been starting to pop up.

First it’s reproductive rights. Next trans. Next gay. How long do you think it’ll take before Lawrence v. Texas is overturned and you can never again get a legal blowjob? Or they decide that the internet falls under the Comstock obscenity laws.

In Germany in the early ‘40s, successful Jewish businessmen, pillars of the community, watched Romany and gays being taken from their homes disappearing to who knows where, but satisfied themselves with believing “but they won’t come for me, at least…”

Yeah. It’s like that.
