Assign Role: Twin

This chapter is a modified version of a chapter I wrote in the original story.

Looking over her options, Ash decided on one of the buttons in the "Assign-Role-Category" which had a symbol of two seemingly identical figures printed on it. Once she had pressed the button, the first thing she did was to look at herself to confirm that she hadn't accidentally pressed the body swap button. She quickly confirmed that she still had both the body and life of Dawn, so she wondered what exactly it was that the remote did.

What she saw was that where her old body had stood before was now another Dawn, this one however dressed in a version of Dawn's normal outfit that had taken on a few features of Ash's original clothes. She wore a dress identical to the one Ash currently found herself in, except for the pink parts being colored red, while her head was covered by a version of Dawn's hat that inherited the red of Ash's cap as the color of the Pokéball symbol. While her hair clips were still colored yellow, her scarf now shared that same color, just like the stripe on Ash's jacket formerly did. Lastly, instead of being colored pink, her boots sported the same red color Ash's original shoes did.

Ash was dumbfounded. There were now two Dawns, but she was unsure whether that was the only thing the remote did. She wouldn’t remain in the dark for long, however, as the original, now new, Dawn spoke up.

"It sure is fun exploring Kanto with you sis! Too bad there are no contests for you to participate in," she said enthusiastically.

"Huh? Yeah, seems like they are only hosted in Sinnoh and Hoenn so far," Ash replied.

"Still, I'm so glad that you want to cheer me on when I take on the Kanto gyms, Dawn," Dawn said as she smiled at Ash.

Huh, so apparently, she and Dawn were now twin sisters and this new Dawn wanted to take on the Kanto gyms. Did that mean Ash's original life was converted into this new Dawn or was it fully replaced? She decided to test that.

"You know you can always count on me, Ash," she said.

"Yeah, I do. And you know that I don't really like that nickname, just call me Ashley," Dawn replied a little annoyed.

"Just teasing," Ash tried to laugh it off.

Okay, her original life had been converted into this new Dawn, now apparently called Ashley. She wondered whether or not this was reversible, but decided to think about that at a later time. For now, she thought about whether she should keep experimenting with the many unused buttons of the remote or if she should keep things as they were for now and explore this new reality.
