Seeing the ‘tongue twister’ upgrade now be available for a subject instead of being like the last one that had affected you, the user, made you feel hesitant about handing it over to one of your subjects. You had had your doubts when you first got the same power up as it had affected your mind instead of something physical but you still went through with it in the end. Now pushing that onto someone else didn’t seem right to you if they weren’t aware and the effect seemed to be semi-permanent compared to the other actives you had control over.

You weren’t in a rush to use it now and sleeping on the decision was probably for the best in your opinion. The rest of the KDK updates were pretty standard. Mom and Sarah had gone up by a good chunk of time and while Sarah was still a ways off her next level-up, Mom was getting closer to her level 3. She was just shy of 2400 seconds at a total of 2398 and with another session or two like the one you did in the living room, a level-up was within your grasp.

Sarah currently stood at 5321 out of the 20,000 that she needed for her level 4. Putting that into hours would be a little over 4 and although having her spend the night in your room sounded like it would push it over, something in the back of your mind was telling you not to get your hopes up. You wouldn’t say you have been struggling with keeping contact with your subjects and with everything that has been going on you wouldn’t replace the KDK for anything else in the world but saying all that, the system seemed to be designed for you to bring about change yourself instead of relying on the system itself.

Confessing to Emma, asking Rebecca for help and most recently getting a job were only some of the cases where you had gone out of the way to make your life better and the KDK hadn’t rewarded you for doing any of them directly and just focused on the people would be affected by the changes you personally made. This seemed like your brain was going on a tangent but the line of thought you were trying to conceptualise was that sleeping in the same bed as Sarah wasn’t something that the KDK would reward you for this late into the game.

Your assumption might end up being incorrect and all this worrying would be for nothing but… you didn’t keep your hopes up.

The self-loathing thoughts swirling around your head were pushed away when you heard the sound of footsteps heading towards your room. Nobody else but Sarah seemed to be up and about at this time and you assumed correctly as she poked her head round the door.

“I’ve finished up in there so it's your turn. I’ll wait in my room until your back just in case so knock on my door when you're done” she relayed before ducking her head back round the door, not even waiting for you to respond.

You reluctantly left your bed and headed out of the room towards the bathroom, taking a quick look down the stairs as you went past to see if there were any signs of Mom still being down there. No light leaked out from any of the rooms and checking Mom’s door showed that it was closed tight so you considered the coast to be clear and went to go start your nightly routine. A quick wash was all you felt like you needed instead of a full shower so along with brushing your teeth, you were out of there and heading back to your room with barely any time passing.

Sarah quickly opened the door as soon as you knocked, as if she was just waiting behind the door for you to arrive but you didn’t pay her eagerness any attention and led her back into your room with a smile. She had put on a new set of pajamas that you thought suited her well even though you had expected to be disappointed with the added layers she had put on.

You were excited as you walked with her down the rest of the hallway but once you were in your room, a hint of nervousness took hold of you and looking at Sarah showed that she was feeling the same. You had done things that were a lot worse than just sleeping together but maybe the intimacy of the act was weighing on you now that the time had come.
