Which option will you choose?
Answer truthfully and honestly. It's better if you cooperate for now
You hesitate for a moment to answer, but finally, you cave. "It's a note," you answer, choosing to cooperate. There's no point in you lying now, especially when you don't know the notes' contents. You're not even sure that the fold paper is actually a note, though it's a reasonable guess. Dr. Ashford looks at you as she unfolds the paper. You watch as she reads it to herself. Her lips don't move, but her eyes do.
"Did you read it?" Dr. Ashford sternly asks.
"No ma'am," you say as you continue to cooperate.
Hearing this, Dr. Ashford folds the paper up and places it safely in her skirt. Once she put the paper away, Dr. Ashford walked closer towards you. "If you didn't read it, how do you know it's a note?"Dr. Ashford asked her voice both stern and yet firm.
"I don't," you say, taking a pause. "It’s just a likely guess due to where it was placed. Also, it was folded over suggesting whoever placed it, wanted it read.
"And yet you didn't read it," Dr. Ashford asks, looking puzzled.
"I did not," you answer firmly.
Dr. Ashford looks at you. You're unsure whether she believes you or not. You now await possible fallout.
Your options
Dr. Ashford does believe you and praises you for doing what's right.
Dr. Ashford tries to gaslit you into believing there never was a note.
Dr. Ashford doesn't believe you and decides to sedate you more.
(Author note)
As you might have noticed from my last couple chapters, I've begun to shorten my chapters some allowing for a quick and hopefully easier read. Let me know if you're enjoying the slight change, and let me know if there's anything I might change.

A first person story
You are Dr. Abigail Winters, the newly appointed director of the Ashford Institute. Having arrived a day early, you decide to head straight for the institute. Unfortunately for you, the staff of the institute has been told to expect the arrival of a female patient matching your height and age. When you arrive at the institute, you are expecting to be greeted by your fellow professionals. Instead, you find yourself being mistaken for a patient by the staff. Can you convince them that there's been a mistake? Or will you end up undergoing treatment at the very institute you were appointed to run?
