Chapter 8 by Kongforce Kongforce

What's next?

Leave the note assuming it's a trick.

You stare at the piece of paper as it lies positioned on the canvas platform. It wouldn't take much for you to grab it, and yet you hesitate. Something about the paper doesn't feel right. Maybe it has to do with how easy it feels? Since arriving at the Ashford Institute, nothing has gone the way you thought. Everything that you thought would go easy has led you to exactly where you are.

Locked in restraints, you're mind still partially in a cloud, in a room all alone. And yet now you wake to find what you believe to be a note lying within your reach. All you'd have to do is stretch your hand out and grab it. The note brings hope. Hope that's what every inside will lead to you getting out. That the truth will be discovered, and you'll escape this awful place.

For a moment, the hope gets to you, and you find that you've begone to reach out. That's when it connects with you. Hope is powerful it can give you strength when you have none. It can also make one ****, causing them to cling to what's not there. To feed into the delusion of what could be instead of what is. You pull your hand back, lying it close to your side. The note is still there. You've left it, and with it, any chance of a possible alley. You tell yourself it's for the best. That the note only brings possibilities, and you need to focus on what's now.

Just then, you hear the door to your cell creek as it opens. In arrives Dr. Ashford, for your morning check. You take note that it is the doctor who arrives. Normally, a morning check would be done by the Matron or one of her orderlies. Yet, for some reason, it's Dr. Ashford, who walks in. "I see you're a wake. How are we feeling this morning?" Dr. Ashford asks as you take note that her bedside manner is surprisingly good. It's a completely different tone from what you experienced before.

Before you can answer the doctor's questions, she catches the piece of paper with her eyes. "What is this!" She asks, picking the folded paper up. Her tone had changed from what it was mere seconds ago, becoming less welcoming and more aggravated in tone.
