Chapter 10 by ElizaLariana ElizaLariana

Who is spying on us from the second floor?

And man older than Jeffrey, revealed to be his father

Jeffrey looks up at the older gentleman, who’s dressed in a similar workout outfit, his muscle shirt ideal in exposing his muscular arms. “Dad. Didn’t know you were home. Thought you were working out with Uncle Raymond and James,” Jeffrey stated.

“You didn’t think to look in every room, to make sure you were definitely alone with your friend,” Jeffrey’s father says. He makes his way down the stairs and even as he takes his time to approach Jeffrey and I, I can already tell he is a little bit taller than his son. “Care to tell your friend how you’ve dabbled in X-Change before?”

Jeffrey has a bothered aura about him and a little bit of what I assume is embarrassment. Here I am, standing in a room with two black men, myself having transformed into a woman, and he’s the one getting embarrassed. He finally catches my eyes and he drops his head, looking disappointed in himself. Maybe he’s blaming himself for not having checked if he was alone in the house or not. “I’ve taken X-Change before.”

“That is not the whole truth, kid,” says another voice from above. Leaning against the banister is a pair of black men, around the father’s age.

“Easy there,” the father says, calming whatever tension is in the room. “No need to point fingers or get people to ‘fess up on things. Jeffrey says he has taken X-Change before. Let’s maybe leave it at that.” He turns to me, seeing that the dynamic has drastically changed in the last five minutes. With these four black men in the room and me being the only light-skinned female, I’m feeling a bit outnumbered. “I believe you’ve consented to come here and take an X-Change. Classic, I believe?” I nod, confirming that was the pill Jeffrey gave me. “I think it’s fair you get to choose what happens next.”

What choice do I make?
