Ancient seeds

In the basement of the museum, there was a lab where some of the artifacts had been brought. Dr. Kerrigan and Dr. Roberts were in charge of conducting experiments on some of the things recovered, which included a small vase with what looked like seeds inside.

For the past month, they had been growing a plant in a sealed chamber. Everything they had seen so far indicated that it was normal, and maybe just from a tropical climate, or maybe something from deep in the rainforest they just hadn't discovered yet.

The plant had green leaves and seemed to feed off sunlight and water. The only thing that was off to them was how it seemed to move. Most plants will lean toward sunlight or cup their leaves when it rains, but when one of them sits by the computer next to the clear chamber, the plant would gradually lean towards them, which was exciting for their research.

"So why do you think it does that?" Dr. Roberts asked as he was writing down notes.

"Could be for multiple reasons. Maybe it senses our body heat, or maybe it responds to movement, vibrations?" She replied. "He, what's that, in the center?" She said noticing a thick stem starting to grow in the center of the plant.

"That wasn't there yesterday. Maybe it has a way of flowering?"

"This thing is just full of surprises," Dr Kerrigan said with a smile. "I wonder how long it will take?"

"No way to know. That growth is all new just from yesterday, but we don't know how big it will get. Will be interesting though," he said with a monotone voice.

"This isn't exciting to you?"

"Kerrigan, I take my work very seriously. I suggest you do the same," he said before clicking his pen and walking away.

"Jesus," she said before looking at the plant. "Could you use one of your vines to pull the stick out of his ass," she said in a joking fashion.

As she stood there, jotting down more notes, she noticed that the stem had begun to lean towards her, growing just a little bigger. As she glanced down, she noticed it and focused on what was happening.

"What the..... Dr Roberts?" She said looking up to see he had left the lab. "Dammit, what is it doing?" She said as the stem pulsed, growing even larger as it began to reassemble something that made her blush a little. "Oh my," she said, trying not to smile before this green slimy liquid began to drip from the tip. "What is that?"

Using the sample collector arm in the chamber, she took some of the green goo, pulling it from the chamber in a small sealed container. Whatever this stuff was, it was something new, so it needed to be analyzed.
