Chapter 12

How does the journey go?

An unexpected rescue

Caroline bolted towards the stairs, quickly running down them in an attempt to get away. The second she reached the second floor, however, the sound of crunching wood, snarls, and forty-eight clawed paws made it's way to her ears.

"Crap!" Caroline shouted as she practically flew down the stairs, not even bothering to look back as the pack of six Spider Wolves chased after her. Once at the bottom, she ran as fast as she could towards the basement door. "Almost there! Just a few more -"

Caroline let out a yelp as she felt something hit her ankle, causing her to trip and fall onto her face. Looking behind her, she gasped upon seeing her left foot covered in a web...

And shrieked as she saw the Spider Wolves land onto the first floor, the Alpha Male snarling as the pack came closer. Out of desperation, Caroline reached for her knife... Only to discover that it had slid out of reach after she fell, and was now several feet away from her.

"N-nice Spider... Doggy... Things..." Caroline chuckled nervously, eyeing the pack of predators. Gulping at the venom dripping from The Alpha Male's fangs, she let out a whimper as it got closer.

Just as the Alpha prepared to bite down, however, a low, tiger-like roar sounded off, causing the pack to look up. Looking up as well, Caroline noticed the Tiger Sloth slowly climbing up a wall with a look of not hunger, but fear.

A sound that sounded like a mix between a snort and a bellow then rang out as the front doors to the manor burst in, allowing a large grayish brown animal with two long tusks hanging from it's lower jaw and a three foot horn on it's snout to charge into the house. The Spider Wolves whimpered and backed down, yelping as they ran back up the stairs.

Caroline closed her eyes in terror as she felt this new beast charge down the halls towards her. However, once she felt a breeze pass her, she opened her eyes to see the creature had ran past her and into what looked like an indoor pool room, splashing down into it before swimming around, much to the woman's shock.

"Walrhino." Caroline turned to see Sarah, the one who spoke, and Kyle walking back up the stairs. "Part White Rhinoceros, part Atlantic Walrus. A solitary herbivore, and the second largest on this island; dwarfed only by the Titanphants. Makes sense that the Tiger Sloth would get spooked and warn it's partners of the danger."

"Not that I'm not glad it didn't, but why didn't it attack me?" Caroline asked as Kyle picked up the knife and cut the web holding her foot.

"Two reasons that we know of." Kyle said, cutting her free. "First, Walrhinos were one of the few non-aggressive creatures we made. Territorial, yes, but not aggressive. In fact, they were the only creatures we made that seemed to be terrified of humans. Second, Walrhinos have even worse eyesight than Spider Wolves, so it most likely didn't even see you."

"And it seems to be more preoccupied with finding a water source than anything else." Sarah observed as the Walrhino dove under the surface of the pool.

Kyle helped Caroline to her feet as she dusted herself off. "I have the code." She said, "Now we can get into the armory, get better weapons, and save my friends."

"With all due respect, Caroline, I really think we should wait until first light tomorrow." Kyle said.

"I agree with Kyle, Hun." Sarah said, cutting Caroline off before she could argue. "Not only is it too dark to make our way even by torchlight, but you just nearly got eaten by Spider Wolves and trampled by a Walrhino."

"But they -"

"We promise!" Kyle interrupted, "At first light tomorrow, will go find your friends. Right now, though, let's just grab what we can from the armory, and head back into the bunker."

Caroline wanted to argue, but knew she wasn't going to win this time. "Okay." She sighed as the three headed back down to the basement, "This code had better work, though..."

The next morning, Jane let out a small moan as she frowned a bit. She knew that she was waking up, but she didn't want this dream to end. Especially when the love of her life was kissing her head and rubbing her back while she was snuggling into her lover's breasts.

Wait a second...

Eyes fluttering open, Jane came face to face with Alex's breasts, letting out a silent gasp as she looked up into Alex's eyes. Her fiancée gave a loving smile.

"Morning, Baby."

"Last night wasn't a dream, was it?!"

"A dream come true, absolutely! An actual dream? Nope."

"Good!" Jane said as she hugged Alex tightly. "I don't ever want to be without you! I love you too much!"

"Aww, I love you too, Janey." Alex cooed, giving Jane a quick peck on the lips. "How about we go find a pond to take a bath and then go grab breakfast?"

"Can we have some fun first?" Jane purred, tracing a heart on Alex's stomach.

"My, my, my!" Alex giggled, "Now who's being forward?"

"Can you blame me after becoming engaged to the most beautiful woman I have even met in my life?"

"I guess I really can't." Alex replied with a blush at the compliment. A second later, she giggled again. "Alright. One round, and then it's bath time."

"Works for me..." Jane said as she pounced on top of Alex, the two women laughing as they began to make love once again.

In the bunker, Caroline looked over the key in her hand as Kyle and Sarah loaded the rifles, shotguns, and pistols that they managed to grab from the armory last night.

"Know how to use one of these?" Sarah asked as she handed Caroline a handgun.

"Only in video games, but..." Caroline replied with a nod, shrugging as she took the handgun. "You?"

"Grandpa shot clay pigeons in the Olympics." Kyle replied as he held up a rifle.

"Mom was a Marine and occasionally took me to the shooting ranges." Sarah answered, cocking a shotgun.

Caroline nodded as she placed the silver key back into her furry, bikini top before grabbing her spear and pistol. "Hang on, Guys! We're coming to save you!"

How does the search for Alex and Jane go?
