An Rendezvous For An Apology

Exactly two weeks to the day Robin asked if we could go away so she could thank me properly, I called Robin with a little suggestion. The phone rang four times then it was answered.

A timid “Hello?”

“Is this Robin Carvers?”

“Yes, Who is this?”

Okay, I could take this two ways, the direct approach or a smart alec approach. Of course I opt for the smart alec approach.

“I wonder if you still want to thank me properly?”

Man, I wasn’t ready for Robin’s reply, “I’m sorry, I think you have a wrong number!”

Well that back fired on me, i decided to save the call the only way possible the direct approach. “Robin this is Graham Cartier!"

“Oh god, I didn’t recognize the number or your voice, now I understand what you meant and my answer is you bet I am, but can we do that where mom wouldn’t be around to try to stop me?”

Well that was what I was calling about, I’ve just been given a use of a friend’s place down by the beach this weekend, fifty miles from here and was wondering if you would care to join me?”

I heard her hem and haw for a second then, “Mom is going to visit her sister this weekend and really didn’t want me to be here all alone so now I won’t be!”

I told her how to get there, just so I wouldn’t look like someone who only wanted to be alone with her to get in her panties. We agreed that she would drive to the cabin an hour after I left work on Friday.

Finally, I was at the beach house dusting and sweeping, with my shirt off, so Robin wouldn’t come into a dirty cabin. My phone went off a little after seven, a text message.

“Like a klutz, I’ve spilt water all over my top and jeans, so I’ve taken them off! Hope this
won’t offend you?”

Then a knock on the cabin’s front door, which opened and in came an excited Robin who jumped into my arms and wrapped her legs around my waist.

“God I’ve been waiting to apologize to you for weeks, so tell me you won’t prevent me doing so!”
