Chapter 16 by Elfie Elfie

How do things end for Lavorra?

Alt Ending: Road to Recovery

Is Lavorra pregnant?

Yes/No (Likely) - [2,1] No but… her misadventure has taken a heavy toll, and she won’t be going anywhere any time soon.

(Note: this genuinely surprised me! I actually planned to roll twice given what Lavorra went through, and got the same result both times!)

How badly is she affected by her experience?

How Much - [4] About Average - recovery will take a long time, but it will come.

She spends long days in the Chapel grounds, walking barefoot in the gardens. The stillness there keeps her soothed, and her sisters give her the space she needs.

The moment she arrived, brought to the Chapel in the guardsman's tender arms, she was taken in by Sister Loreli. The older Elvenwoman asked no questions and did not probe, giving Lavorra time to tell her story through sobs. Loreli cleaned her head to toe, with soaps and supplies usually reserved for the most honoured guests. That night, she had sat in Loreli‘s own quarters with Neryli at her side, and the two Order Sisters had dressed her in gentle linens and brushed her hair, listened to her tale and her fears and soothed her tormented spirit.

The next day she’d woken herself up shaking, but not with sadness or fear. She had begged Loreli to let her see the Mother Superior, and then begged again for the Mother to contact Razi and Kaliana by any means, to do whatever it took to see that Melira got the help she needed.

Again, she was met with calm and care, and magical means had been employed. The girls were alerted, and on their way.

She feels very, very lucky. Somehow, against the odds, her body remains unchanged. There is no child growing in her belly. A small part of her feels guilty for being so relieved. It is just another thing that will take time to move through.

The latest news from the Delwald is of a skirmish between Daemonic forces, and the warriors of House Svarsfen. There are grim and terrible details: Human and Elven women imprisoned and taken as breeding slaves.

But Melira has been rescued, and is on her way in the company of Kali and Razi. She weeps again when she hears this, so very very grateful that her failure has not cost Melira’s life. Each day that she mentions having failed, Loreli and Neryli are there to gently chastise her, and remind her that she is the victim.

She doesn’t much like being a victim any more than a failure, but she is gathering her strength each day. Her life ahead will see her take up her shield again, one day. She knows that she will be facing danger again before too long, and knows that she can manage it.

For now though, it is enough to rest, surrounded by natural beauty and heartfelt kindness. With her friends soon to join her. The guardsman who brought her into the city, whose name it transpires is Damock, has visited often too.

He has kind eyes, she thinks to herself, and a beard prematurely shot through with grey. She remembers the gentleness with which he lifted her, and the way he used his cloak to hide her from prying eyes as he carried her through the morning market. She looks forward to his visits.

She knows, there too, that life will be good again. That she will be able to enjoy adventure and company again, when she’s healed her spirit along with her body.

For now, she sits in the garden, and thanks the Matron that Melira is safe, and that she is too.
