A whole new world

You wake up to the smell of brimstone and the sound of crackling food. You bolt up in a fright for your life, and find that you are very much not where you nodded off to sleep. The red horizon is endless, stopped only by great crags in the far distance, all pouring out an endless display of lava, smoke, and sulfur. The ground beneath your feet is sharp and seeming glass, and yet you are not cut by any of the hard edges. Rosita is nowhere to be found, nor is there any sign of the Cathedral, the city, or even the world as you knew it. You slowly walk around, scared and lost. "Don't tempt me Demetria. Even a mothers love has its limits..." The world goes dark, and you frantically search for any sign of life. In a panic, you leap out of bed in a cold sweat, panting. You touch your body, the bed, remind yourself you're in the real world. You're home. You hop out and look out your small window to see the world is as you left it, mostly. The night is still young, but the shifting winds suggest dawn will be coming soon. How you got from the altar, naked, to your bed, clothed, is a blur. Was that all a fantastic dream, or did it all really happen? Unsure, you slowly crawl back into bed, your knees pulled into your chest. It takes a long time before you drift back to sleep, and your rest comes fitfully. The morning comes sooner than you're ready, but you have to face it as best you can.
