Chapter 13 by Twisted_Fellow Twisted_Fellow

Would Skyler and Koby be able to enjoy a simple meal together? Or would something happen on their way there?

A sudden change of plans

Skyler and Koby were about to head to the door when Travon's voice drew their attention back to the entrance of Skyler's room. "Where are you go~ing?" They both could see their father standing in the archway of his room clad in his white undershirt and white boxer briefs. Koby let out a breath. "We're going to Sasi's." Travon stuck out his tongue. "Ugh." His large belly, which protruded like an overfilled ball, shook slightly, not jiggled, but shook like it were all one solid piece of flesh while smiling wide. "Since you are going out. Can you pick up a half salad for me from Cobbleheads?" Skyler looked to his father with a slight nod. "Um, sure. What's your sugar at?"

Travon pondered this for a moment as he scratched his gray beard. "Seventy-nine." Skyler looked to Koby then back to Travon and used Observe on him. "Are you sure you don't want something with some carbs then?"

Observe:

Travon shrugged. "I don't know. You tell me." Skyler and Koby looked to one another with a sigh before Skyler spoke. "How about I get you a crispy chicken club salad from Jack's? That would have enough carbs to bring you back up to normal while still being a healthy salad." Travon nodded. "Okay." At that moment Verona called out from the living room. "Did I hear you are going to Jack's?" Skyler sighed before yelling back. "Yeah, what did you want?" Shortly after, she replied. "You know what I want." Skyler tilted his head as that thought filled his mind. "An ultimate cheeseburger, no mayo and no mustard?" She soon replied. "Yep! Love you." Skyler smiled. "Love you too."

Travon had shuffled off to the kitchen by this time as Koby grumbled. "So much for that idea. We could have just picked up their food afterward." Skyler shook his head. "Dad couldn't wait that long and we might as well make it one trip. Besides, this way dad will be paying." Koby lifted a brow. "Oh?" Skyler nodded as they headed out to the car. "Yep, this is a trip for him. So I will be using his card to pay." Koby grinned. "Okay, good." The trip to and from Jack's was uneventful, but this was a good thing in Skyler's opinion.

Once they were back, they divided up the food. Koby had turned on the t.v. in Skyler's room and sat down on the smaller recliner that had been given to Skyler by their belated grandmother. Skyler took off his shoes, socks, and shorts before moving to sit down on his recliner to eat with his brother to watch whatever show Koby decided to put on. Normally, Skyler didn't care one way or another what Koby put on while they were eating. As it so happened, this time Koby put on the show, Chopped, a show about chefs competing against one another through three rounds. An appetizer, entree, and dessert round with little time and usually odd ingredients to showcase within each round.

Although Skyler only partly paid attention to the show, over the years of watching not only it, but other cooking shows that Koby had put on display, much of the information had sunk in, allowing him to do a decent job cooking for himself. Oddly enough, Skyler was unaware of this since he didn't have much interest in cooking. Honestly, he had sorta tried before, but didn't do very well. Mostly because he simply didn't care enough. However, that changed after one day of eating at a restaurant called, Dirty Al's. The food was so expensive and bad, that Skyler decided that he couldn't do any worse.

Several days later, Skyler made his first great meal of baked flounder. He originally tried a recipe to make this. However, after trying it once, he decided to change some of the ingredients. This made it not only healthier, but in his opinion far more tasty. He used ground up almonds instead of panko bread crumbs and instead of using simple parmesan cheese, he used an even mixture of parmesan and romano cheese. Koby and Skyler watched the program as they ate. Skyler let out a groan. "Ah fuck, I hate that guy." Koby nodded. "I know." Skyler looked to his brother. "What's that white haired guy's name? You know the hypocritical prick." Koby chuckled. "Geoffrey Zakarian."

They both disliked Geoffrey for two simple reasons. One he is a huge hypocrite, always telling others not to do things that he himself will do to other judges. He will apologize in front of the judges, but when not in front of them. He will state that not only did he know better, but he did it without a care because he knows better than them. Second is that he honestly doesn't deserve his position on the program, Iron Chef. Skyler let out a sigh as he continued to eat and started to think of what to do after this show ended. Should he and Koby play a video game together? Or should Skyler work on his writing first?
