Chapter 14

Should Skyler and Koby play a video game together? Or should Skyler work on his writing first?
Surprise quest, a special challenge
Skyler finished eating before Koby and moved to turn on his computer. Although this was fairly normal, it made it rather difficult to get any writing done. Not only did his brother tend to eat more than he did, but Koby tended to eat slowly. Sure, for a normal person having the t.v. on while trying to write would be a minor distraction. However, Skyler was not normal. It was difficult enough to focus on writing in the first place with his dyslexia, but adding the noise made it extremely difficult, if not impossible. To speed up his proofreading he used a web browser extension called, Read Aloud. Although this program was free, it was quite important to him, allowing him to hear most of the mistakes he would undoubtedly make while writing.
Sadly, this didn't help with homophones. Words akin to there or their, would be easily mistaken for one another if Skyler didn't pay full attention to this program. Which is why he needed to focus. Reading along side the extension was the only way to improve his chances of not missing anything within a reasonable length of time. At times like these, it was easy enough to play a card game such as Hearthstone, Solitaire, or something similar to pass the time. Another free to play game, but unlike writing. He didn't need to worry about the sounds being mixed together and causing mayhem within his mind.
Something odd happened when Skyler pulled up the game, Hearthstone this time around. A new yellow exclamation appeared that he allowed to pop up.
New Quest!
It's not a waste of time, mom!

Accept or Decline?
Skyler mentally hit, 'Accept' while thinking. 'Well, I need to find Cleo.' He looked around a moment before heading out of the room. Not long after, he found her resting on the top of the headrest of his father's recliner in the living room. "There you are." He carefully picked her up into his arms and gently ran a hand along her side. She let out a soft whimper before purring softly. He smiled softly to her as he started to walk back towards his bedroom. "Aww, my poor sleepy kitty." Once back in front of his computer, he sat down to start playing. He held her with his left arm while using his right hand to use the mouse.
Koby tilted his head. "One of these days we should try dragon fruit. It looks interesting." Skyler glanced over to Koby with a nod. "Sure. I think they have it at the grocery store." Koby ate a bit more of his meal. "They say it has a slightly sweet flavor and taste similar to a blend of both a kiwi and a pear." Skyler lifted a brow. "That, sounds weird." Koby started to laugh. "True, but that doesn't mean it's bad." Skyler gently bounced his arm and kissed the top of Cleo's head. "Yeah, but that doesn't make it any less weird."
Over the next half an hour, Skyler continued to play without any success. Sadly, he lost four games during this time and had to switch which arm was holding Cleo. He could feel the strength in his right arm waning. His eyes looked to the screen. This match wasn't going well, but from his experience that meant little. A match's outcome can change with a well timed counter or an unexpected power up or two. It was currently his turn, he had 5 health left, 10 mana, one Sand Wasp Queen that had 3 attack and 1 health, but no other fighters on the field against an army of enemies. However, he just drew a very helpful card, Libram of Justice. Its cost was 5 mana, but it would change all of his enemy minion's health to 1 while summoning a 1 attack weapon with 4 durability.
Skyler's opponent had summoned an annoying taunt minion last turn called, Overconfident Orc, it had an additional 2 attack while at full health. This increased its base damage of 1 to 3. Sadly, its health was the original problem here, but with Libram of Justice now available. Its health would be reduced to 1, allowing him to destroy it, but take 3 points of damage in return, leaving him with 2 health. Once done his wasp would be able to finish off his opponent after he gave it two buffs, Blessing of Might, a card that would give his minion plus 3 attack at the cost of 1 mana, and Blessing of Kings, a card that would give his minion 4 attack and 4 health at the cost of 4 mana. This would raise his wasp's attack damage to 10, allowing it to deal a total of 10 damage, taking out his opponent's remaining 9 health.
With the use of Libram of Justice first, Skyler had changed all of his enemy minion's health to 1, allowing him to strike down the Overconfident Orc. After striking down that minion and taking damage, he simply had to buff his wasp and deal the final blow. However, by this time his arms had weakened a little too much, causing his arm to lower to his lap. When his arm hit his lap, a new red exclamation started to flash. He ignored it, but his eyes glanced to his open quest log, noticing its optional bonus was still available. Did having her on his lap, but still held by his arm count as holding Cleo? He shook his head and continued with his plan, using both blessings on his wasp and struck his opponent down, winning his match. Upon doing so, he allowed that red exclamation to pop up while his quest turned itself in.

Endurance has increased from 13 to 15.
Skyler read all of that before shutting down his game and ran a hand along Cleo's back while thinking about what just happened. He felt a little silly. He should have realized that doing something enduring like this would increase his Endurance. However, what would he do after he played a few games of Heroes of the Storm with his brother? Would he start on his writing? Or would he work on increasing his stats further?

Odd side of the Abyss
Are you ready to begin?
We'll be looking at Skyler Peterson's life as he is dragged into the world of the Abyss. He is a depressed man with a lot against him, if only in his own mind. The main character is based on myself. This will be an outlet to help me vent such frustrations. This should help my readers understand me a bit better, but more importantly. I hope everyone who reads it enjoys it. :3
