Chapter 142 by Actiaeon Actiaeon

What does she say?...

A story of two hunters

She is standing before you, inside of the blue cloth-covered room you were in before, earlier today. Remembering just what had happened before; your head seems to be spinning a little, but you try to focus. You are starting to not know how you feel about what happened.

She directs you to sit with her on the cushioned floor. Eve sitting to your left, just between you two. The dim blue light, now tinted further by Eve's amethyst light.

"It awl nachl com da die of our matta-pitar," Mara says, her eyes betraying her sadness.

"She says, that is all began with the **** of their parents," Eve translates.

She tells you a story; starting with her father, how he was a great hunter, capable of hunting even the most enormous beasts of the land, one of the best in the tribe. You are not sure of the statement, but you're not going to contradict her image of her dead father to her.

He and his friend, Paish, how old is Paish then? You think, he must be in his late thirties to early forties, then. One day her father, Apolh, met Leto's daughter, Arta, their mother; after one such hunt. Both of them quickly became infatuated with each other, and after a while, they agreed to be together forever.

However, Paish had long had an infatuation with Arta and became jealous of her attention to Aploh. So one-day Paish asked Apolh, to join him on a hunt; Paish being his friend, he happily agreed to go. However, during the pursuit of their quarry, the other hunters heard screaming; finding that Apolh had fallen off a cliff while tracking the pray.

"Paish, marday muje our pitar!" Mira says, angrily, tears welling in her eyes.

"He killed their father," Eve says to you; the whole room seems to have gotten quiet.

Meanwhile, Arta was heavily pregnant; with them. Giving birth while they were away. However, she did not survive. Much to the surprise of Paish; he had killed the children's father for nothing.

Or it was to be that way until he noticed they were two girls. Saying the Aploh, had asked him to take care of his children before he died. Leto, however, refused to hand over his grandchildren. Leaving Paish to storm angrily out of the tribe; he was not heard from until thirty days ago.

"Nematus khmsum nem jaro avan da hund, wend we had intra our daoki. Paish reintra to da yiqi und daclar, konyan on muje," Mara says, seething.

"Eighteen years after the hunt, when they had entered maturity. Paish returned to the village and declared, intention to marry her," Eve translates.

"Pita was ancor a muskil hundr, und tere wa no nandem Leto sai, no ens wuld ser ims hara pita, fisik. So I wa konyan to pita. Tiam Leto tol Mira und muje, da tawel of how our matta-pitar die; to our turo. We sti we hudt zho a leav it, wend du kamin, like a giv mul Urra; kaminshi mele shisor," She says her frown turning into a nervous smile at you.

"He was still a great hunter, and there was not much Leto could do, no one else would be able to defeat him, physically. So I was set to marry him. Then Leto told us the story of how our parents died; much to our horror. We knew we had to find a way out of it, when you arrived, like a gift from," she hesitates, "Urra? Washed up on the shore," Eve says.

"I think I understand what is going on now," you say, Eve saying back to Mara.

"Yes, ens sihy at du, we sti ana du wuld ims hara Paish; but, Paish wa tere, und pitas disdem ver wehren is meyor tiam pitas lust ver Mira und muje; so pita nachl to hamala du dwe. We are lwlan dat pita wuld marday da dwe of du," she says, setting a hand on your chest, on your bruises.

"Yes, one look at you, we both knew that you could beat Paish; however, Paish was there, and his dislike for outsiders is even worse than his lust for us; so he began to beat the two of you. We were worried that he would kill either of you," Eve converts to English.

"Im asaf ver treken du pita," she says, looking into your eyes, "but it wa da oni way."

Eve starts to translate back, "She is sorry for--"

--"I understand Eve," you wave her to stop.
