A shocking punishment and a quiet hallway, and Golondrina is busy

You lie in the Warden's bed, drifting back from dreamland. It's bright day. The Warden is absent. There is pressure in your bladder and you crave a bath. Your wand is still under the pillow. You have the plain gray robe borrowed from the Infirmary, after your escape from the Weirding Woods with Asteria Hornbeam and her unnerving news from Miss Wormwood.

You rise, wand in hand. Barbara Torch has dismissed the ward around the bed, which is proper; once a circle has served its purpose, one uncasts it. A good deal of the first-year programme has to do with cleaning up after yourself in magical leavings.

And non-magical leavings. Though you know a useful cantrip or two, and Beavertail is eager to share their tricks and spread the load.

You frame a useful little spell to leave the Warden's bed in good order, but as you utter the first syllable, a painful shock travels through you from fingertips to lips, and your wand clatters on the floor.

Warded. Of course.

Barbara Torch's quarters are fiercely if quietly warded from magical mischief. Even if the mischief is making the bed.

You rub the jitters out of your arm and resign yourself to using your actual hands on the actual bedding to pull it straight and leave it made.

You don the gray robe, wrap up your soiled and rumpled House Leontes robe -- the red and gold still looking foreign to you after nearly three years of black and white -- and gingerly try the door.

You have no trouble leaving, though the door makes a suspiciously definite click as it closes behind you. Your shoulder still feels twitchy from Barbara Torch's ward. "As willed and promised," you mutter. Finally you get to see Lolo.
