Chapter 6 by Shibbar Shibbar

What's next?

Woodland Dolmen

Following the directions told inadvertently by Easme, Hopkins found himself in a glade within the forest; the first time he could see the open sky since he entered the woods. His eyes drew upon the megalithic structure sitting lonesomely in the middle of this glade. It was a dolmen. The humans tend to tear these structures down, whether for an easy source of stone or religious reasons; because of this, sometimes the goblins would find one in places most people don't tend to look. This perticular one however Hopkins has never seen before. It felt somehow... different from other structures. It gave off a menacing aura, a sense that told him that he ought to not be here. He drew closer, but found himself stopped by some invisible barrier. It took him a moment to notice the ring of little pebbles circling the dolmen; and though he tried to move one, it remained stuck to the ground as if it weighed a thousand times more than it should.

As he bent himself back up, he was suddenly so startled that he fell over backwards, his eyes wide as he saw the figure within the circle as if they've always been standing there, just a foot or two from the edge. She was silent, a curled smile on the edge of her lips.

"Well what have we here? A little goblin messing with the circle?"

It was a tall lady in the shape of a human, but not. Her skin was pale and her eyes serpentine, and her hair seemed almost as if made of fire. She had long spiriling horns that were as black as onyx, and on her left arm she wore- no, not wore; it was a part of her- it was an armoured arm of gold, the fingers ending in sharp points. A thick tail swished from side to side behind her. When she spoke everything was quiet; her voice was sweet yet insidious.

"Be a darling and find something for me, would you?" she said as she plastered her body against the edge of the barrier, squishing her assets for Hopkins to see, "there's this amulet I would like you to bring here. If you do this for me, I'll protect your village from that awful bad knight." She finished with a short pout of the lips, and then grinned, her sharp teeth visible.

'How she know about village?' Hopkins thought.

"I know about a LOT of things darling. Now be a good boy and do as you're told." She almost sounded annoyed, but kept her grinning face.

"I try find amulet for you," Hopkins said, which came to a shock to him, since he didn't mean to say that.

"Good! I'm so tired of trying to coax woodland critters to do this simple task. You'll find that the amulet is not too far from here; I can sense it in a tower south of your village. Go inside, find it, and bring it here and I will make sure that your village is not harmed," she stopped smiling and turned around in a huff, striking a pose that showed off her shapely butt, and dismissed him with a wave of her hand, "now go, I grow tired of talking to you."

Hopkins backed off and blinked; she was gone when he opened his eyes. Did he just imagine this whole encounter? The wind whistled as it blew through the dolmen, and once more he could hear the usual sounds of the woods.

Best get going.
