Chapter 2

Who finds the game?
A middle-aged couple
"Hey Drew, look at this!"
Drew dragged himself away from the gorgeous view of the sports and camping outlet to **** himself to look at whatever his wife had found this time.
At 42, he wasn't the picture of athleticism he'd been twenty years ago, now a bit stocky with a thick neck, but he had trimmed down the flab he'd grown in his thirties from a wide barrel to a somewhat soft but tighter can, and he was still packing some big guns that his wife liked to stroke and squeeze in bed.
By contrast Jen, aged 44, had kept a very svelte body well through her thirties until she suffered a nervous breakdown five years ago. Now her face was noticeably rounder and her hips wider, but on the flip-side, she was a lot happier, and this made Drew happier, too. He only wished that she'd drop the impulse shopping habit she'd developed.
"It's... a box."
"It's kind of a work of art, though," said Jen. "Look."
She opened the mural.
"It's nice," Drew said indifferently.
"Wait," said Jen.
She found the side drawers. The dice and the idols.
"I think it's a board game!"
"We've got the Switch at home," muttered Drew, "do we really..."
"Only one dollar? That's a steal!"
Drew groaned as Jen carried the box to the cash register.
"Look, honey," he said, "there are a bunch of video games that go for a dollar or less, and that's usually because no one wants them."
"Oh don't patronize me," she said half-jokingly. "This is a very interesting item and I want to have it."
"For what, though?" he asked.
"To play?" she said, "It's interesting enough to look at, but I'd like to try playing it as well."
She buried her face in his chest.
"You'd play it with me, wouldn't you, big guy?"
"Well..."
Drew didn't feel like he could outright refuse such a minor request, so he demurred.
"Look, there were four pieces in there. Maybe you can play with two players, but it might not be as fun, so who else would we play with?"
Jen thought for a moment. "Well..."
Who will they get to play?
