Chapter 3 by PageFluffa PageFluffa

Who will they get to play?

Their kids

"Leo and Erin start summer break this weekend. We can play with them."

Drew wiped his forehead. "Do we have to rope the kids into this? What makes you think they'd want to do that?"

Jen carried the box to the door. "Because we're their parents and they love us."

Leo arrived on Thursday night. A lanky 19-year-old with dark hair, he didn't really resemble either of his parents in looks or temperament. Upon his arrival, he gave each parent a hug, then disappeared into his room.

Erin arrived on Friday night. At 20-years-old, she was a 97% miniature clone of her mother at her age, with her flowing blonde hair and perfect figure, looks-obsessed, but not vain. She gave her parents hugs and kisses, told a quick anecdote about her flight, then announced she was going to meet some friends and would be a bit late.

As Erin jogged to the car, Drew looked at the game box on the table that had gone completely unnoticed.

"They've got their own things," said Drew. "Do you really think..."

"Oh please, Drew," said Jen. "They can take one night off to play a board game with their parents.

Drew went silent. He didn't doubt that, but he still felt apprehensive. There was something off about that game.

Jen cornered each of the kids on Saturday morning, and without any arm-twisting, she managed to set up an after-dinner game night.

Saturday night. After polishing off Jen's Tex-Mex lasagna and clearing the table, the whole family was gathered around the game board.

"Did you figure out how to play?" Drew asked Jen.

"We start at the beginning," said Jen, pointing out the starting space, "and we take turns, rolling the dice to move, then drawing a card. Sounds pretty simple."

She held out the game pieces to Leo and Erin. "Want to choose your pieces first?"

Leo took the wolf, Erin the woman. Jen then handed the fish to Drew, and kept the cat for herself.

"The instructions don't say how to determine game order," said Jen.

"Let's just go clockwise, starting with whoever rolls highest," said Erin.

Clockwise, the table went from Erin to Jen to Drew to Leo, and the winner of the high roll was...

Who goes first?
