A job well done

Heading back to work the following week, you’re not surprised to see a familiar name cross your desk. As Dave had told you to expect, it’s one of your old coworkers, a rather quiet guy named Keith. You never knew him very well, but he always seemed like a decent person, just quiet. Reading through his file, you understand him better, and you find nothing in the way of red flags.

When he comes in for the interview, he seems embarrassed, especially when he recognizes you. You’re able to reassure him, and he calms down a lot as you talk about your own experiences as a sponsor. He explains, haltingly, that he’s essentially just lonely, and has trouble going out to meet people due to his social anxiety.

As he speaks, you get a flash of inspiration. Though you receive no notification from the viewing room, you know exactly who to speak to. Telling Keith to wait, you hurry off to the monster girl dorms. As you expected, the girl you’re looking for isn’t in the viewing room, and you make your way to her door.

Ria has been here for nearly a year, and had all but given up on finding a suitable sponsor. An earth spirit, she was frustrated early on because she didn’t fit what many sponsors were looking for. Shorter and stocky, she wasn’t a flashy beauty like so many of the monster girls, though she was quite attractive herself. If it wasn’t for her brown skin and green hair, she could pass for a dwarven woman. She also tended towards being quiet and reserved, something that caused her to be passed over in favor of more outgoing women.

When she answers her door, you quickly take her hand, much to her surprise. You practically drag Ria from her room, ignoring her protests as you bring her to the viewing area. You sit her down, and play back the interview. Tia’s green eyes grow wide, and slowly a smile spreads across her face. Turning to you, she simply nods.

When you bring her to the interview room, you find Keith waiting patiently, seemingly unbothered by the long wait. As you lead Ria in, you hear him audibly gasp, staring at the earth spirit as she hesitantly approaches him. You begin to explain what’s happening, but you quickly realize that neither of them are hearing you. You chuckle and sit, simply beginning to fill out the paperwork.

At the end, as the two of them leave hand in hand, you smile to see the obvious happiness in both of them. You already knew that meeting Mazzy ended up being one of the best things to happen to you, but seeing the abrupt change in the earth spirit, you have a realization. Finding a good sponsor can be as big of a deal for both sides. Ria’s smile is radiant, and you can already see that the two of them will be happy together. You’ve made two people extraordinarily happy today, and that feels really good.
