A jealous daughter

Before you can say anything, Karina turns and runs away, Mia trailing behind and calling after her. You turn back to Nadia and Ana, who are now standing and looking around awkwardly.

"Well, that didn't go how I thought it would," Nadia mumbles.

"Let me go and talk with her," you say, and leave the women behind.

You run out of your house and look both ways. You can barely see Karina's blonde hair flying behind her in the distance, Mia still beside her. You run after them. One block. Then another. Karina is nearly sprinting away.

Eventually, you catch up with her. They're sitting on a bench next to the road - outside of the restaurant you took Karina to, you realize.

Karina is curled into Mia's arms. Crying. Her face is red and blotchy and not at all like the beautiful porcelain skin you're used to seeing.

"Karina," you say, as you approach. She looks up at you but says nothing. Mia gives you a concerned look.

You sit beside Karina on the other side of the bench but don't touch her.

"Karina, I'm sorry you saw that... I didn't mean for -" you begin, but she cuts you off in a borderline yell.

"Didn't mean for what, Dad? To have a fucking threesome with Nadia and your cousin?"

Mia looks around, but no one is paying you any attention.

"No, I didn't. I truly didn't." You run your hand across her back, gently caressing her where she lays against Mia. "It seems like everything in my life has changed so drastically recently... even with you. With Mia. Things are spinning out of control. I'm sorry, Karina. I didn't mean to hurt you. You know I care about you more than anything."

She looks up at you through dreary eyes and wipes a tear from her cheek with a hand. "Okay," she whispers, then pulls away from Mia. She stands in front of the bench and further wipes her eyes. Her hair falls messily around her face, covering her agitated skin. "I need to be alone. I'll see you at home." And she leaves, disappearing around the corner. You don't try to stop her. She needs space.

"She just loves you, you know," Mia says, still sitting beside you.

"I know. I don't want her to be upset, though. Or you. I know Karina is the one crying now, but I..." you trail off, unsure of what to say.

Mia scoots closer to you on the bench and rests her head on your shoulder.

"It's okay, Lev. I'm a big girl. I care about you, and I want you to be happy. If that means being with me, that's icing on the cake. You're the only man I've ever been with like this, so everything is exciting to me. Karina will come around too. Despite what she may say, she wants the same thing. For you to be happy. As painful as it is, if that means other women... she'll accept it. Just give her time."

"You seem wise beyond your years, Mia," you say, and look at her. She has a mysterious look in her eyes, which breaks into a smile. She quickly darts in for a kiss and retracts, resettling against your shoulder.

"What can I say, I've been around."
