Chapter 6 by Squiddog Squiddog

What awaits the moving horde?

A bright future for Rovni and her horde

It took nearly the entire day but Rovni was impressed by the stamina of her goblins, weakened and poorly kept they still pushed on with her through the woods either by sheer strength, stubbornness or following her promise they broke into the promised glade as the first streaks of orange from the setting sun littered the sky.

before the goblins and Rovni laid a massive clearing with a great lake backed against it, hard oaks surrounded the region and promised a safe camp to the horde.

"Welcome my hardy followers to your new camp, we set up near the lake." Rovni called out and at a moderate pace her goblins overtook her and made for the lake like eager children, except for one.

"Chieftess, may Lug speak?" Lug asked moving to Rovni's side as his kin pushed on, Rovni looked at the goblin and nodded, "What is chieftess Rovni going to do? Not... now but next?" Lug asked and Rovni smiled, and kept her stride.

"Next Lug, once camp is established and all of you are able, I am going to teach and train all of you." Rovni stated and looked ahead as the first few of her horde reached the lake.

"Teach? Train? goblins don't, goblins... are goblins." Lug answered back, obviously confused but his new chieftess and her plans.

"Yes you are right, goblins are goblins, and I am human, I am orc, what we are does not mean we cannot be more Lug, think about it this way, if a goblin is better at crafting and building then raiding and we have enough raiders, what is better? Another spear, or more better spears?" Rovni explained back, it would take a while but she had to teach her horde to be successful, and Lug seemed smarter than most, a good starting point.

Lug stopped mid step for a second and Rovni paused, turning to look at him, after taking longer than Rovni had hoped too think of an answer Lug replied, "More better spear, goblins need... more, more change." Rovni nodded in approval.

"And I will teach, I will train, and this gold will get us tool and swords, better and more than this horde has now, although you are all goblins, you can be better and more." Rovni confirmed and continued her march with lug into the goblin horde by the lake, now making piles of supplies.

Rovni stopped into the beginnings of her future camp, her horde seemed to realize her presence and gathered around to hear her orders.

"We have made it, you have all done well, now, we must be ready for hard days, we will not settle for that wretched hole the weakling Marg called a camp, we need wood for building, not branches and twigs, big thick cuts, strong, requiring many of you to carry it." Rovni started and heard concerned mutterings from her goblins.

"This is to ensure all of our safety, our huts won't fall in wind and rain will struggle to pierce our roofs, it will be harder but we are one horde, one unit, we work together and we will have better conditions for us all." Rovni explained and the goblins perked up at that, clearly the idea of better living was a good motivator for them all, goblins we dim but not dumb.

Rovni went to speak but her eyes caught site of a massive lumbering figure passing into the glade at a moderate pace, Rovni felt her blood run cold at the site of the massive bear with a grey coat, clearly making toward her horde.

"Goblins, behind me!" Rovni called, dropping her sack and drawing her axe and striding forward at the goblins sharp eyes zeroed in on the beast.

The bear kept it's march despite the noise and when it was a short charge out Rovni understood why, the bear was enormous, looking over Rovni's head on all fours, Rovni let out a beastly roar at the bear and the bear came to a halt looking at Rovni.

As it went to growl at Rovni she ran at the beast and met it with her axe into the right side of the beasts snarled face, acting on instinct Rovni ducked back as the bear swiped its massive paw at her, leaving it open to Rovni to step forward and slam her axe into its skull at full **** and in a final huff the beast went down at her feet.

Rovni stared at how easily she had killed the beast but was quick to recover, this was a chance to better herself with her horde.

Pulling her axe free she spun around to her horde who let out a victorious cheer at their chieftess, "Witness the felling of this beast, despite its might it falls before me, as will our future prey, but tonight our prey sleeps safe, for tonight we feast!" Rovni called raising her axe in a display of might, earning a louder thunderous cheer from her horde, "Gather up some wood, build a mighty fire, tonight we celebrate our future!" The goblins made not pause on following her orders going out to gather wood for her first gift to the horde, and Rovni knew today she had earned some true loyalty and respect from her horde.

How does Rovni and her horde enjoy the night?
