A Fight

Verona stares at Bergeth who stares back.

"Eric, who is this? I recognize Gaia but not the other Goddess." He asks me.

"This is Verona, she's the Goddess of Knowledge." I reply and he nods. He turns back to me and raises his hand. His skin turns to white fur, stopping at his elbows. His fingers turn into claws and I see his feet do the same. His wooden shoes disappear before they change.

"Now let's fight!" He says again and I sigh. I feel a light breeze and see Verona has run over. She's stopping next to me.

"When'd you revive Bergeth?" She asks as Gaia walks over.

"Not too long ago." I reply and she nods. "You should fight him. It'll give me a good chance to study your magic. You can let loose with Bergeth as your opponent." She says and Bereth laughs. I Observe Bergeth while getting ready.

HP: 12500/12500 MP: 7500/7500

Bergeth's a higher level than the Oni Chieftain but he has less HP. But with what Prisma told me about Levels, that probably means he has more strength. He does have way more mana. I think while taking out my Boots, Claws, and Horns out while casting Ancient Beastial Strength.

"Bergeth, let's go over here. And try not to destroy my Domain." I say while walking away from the cabin. He laughs and follows me. The others all follow us and stop about twenty feet away. Verona counts us down and starts the match. As soon as the battle starts Bergeth disappears. I look around but don't see him. My Horns detect something from behind me. Almost immediately Clairevoyance activates and shows me getting kicked in the head from behind. I see the shadow attacking me, who I assume is Bergeth, right above my shadow. I cast Dark Cutter and the wave of darkness appears from my shadow. It shoots up as I start to turn. I hear Bergeth kick it, but he can't break it. I cast Devour and it comes out of my shoulder. It bites down on him, still stunned from being unable to break my Dark Cutter and in the air.

I swing my Katana at him, Devour keeping its jaw closed tightly in him. He smiles before forcing Devours monster jaw open. He kicks and jumps back. I make Devour and Dark Cutter disappear. He raises his right claw and dark brown energy starts dripping from his fur. He casts Ancient Beast Slash and sends it at me. I see he immediately starts casting Ancient Beast Roar. I pull my Katana back, with the tip pointing at Begeth. I cast Annihilating Trust and destroy the magic in the air. This causes both his spells to vanish and I rush him. I bring my Katana down on him, and he blocks with his arm. My blade connects with his arm, but can barely cut through his fur.

Blood starts running down my blade as I cut into him. He doesn't look like he feels any pain though, he looks impressed. He suddenly swings his arm violently, pushing me back. My katana goes above my head and he swings his other hand at me. I can't move either of my weapons quickly enough to block. He punches my chest and sends me back.

I roll on the ground and stop on my stomach. I get on my hands and knees as my vision becomes blurry. My head is pounding and I feel someone grab me from behind. I see a warm green light and relax, seeing Gaia's healing me. My vision and head slowly return to normal and I can hear them talking.

"-ed to hold back. Most people would die from a rough pat on the back from you. " I hear Gaia say, I didn't hear what she said at first.

"I know, and sorry. But he's alive, isn't he? So it's fine." Bergeth says causing Gaia to scoff. I sit up as she finishes healing me.

"How do you feel Eric?" Gaia asks me.

"I'm fine now, thanks." I say and she nods.

"See, he's fine." Bergeth says, causing Gaia to glare at him again. "Anyway Eric, what's that sword made of? And the curved black spike that came out of your shadow? It's not often I struggle to break something or something can cut my fur." He says while I get up.

"The blade is made from a new material I got recently. It's called Silver Vines and the spell was from my Darkness School." I reply and he nods. Verona walks over behind me and looks down at my shadow.

"Can you use that spell again?" She asks and I nod. I cast Dark Cutter and make it rise from my shadow. I make it stay still as I did during the match. Verona watches it raise from my shadow and tuns her hand along it.

"This is amazing." Verona says while stepping back. I make the spell disappear and turn to her.

"How is it amazing?" Gaia asks her.

"Because of its toughness. It uses magic to solidify his shadow into something tougher than those Silver Vines." Verona says before looking at my Katana. "That skill you used earlier was from your mother's schools, right? The School of Annihilation?" She asks and I nod. "It destroyed the mana in the air, causing the spells to suffocate. I wonder how beings made of mana like Elementals would react to that." She says thinking aloud.

"What do you mean?" Innu asks her.

"Elementals are one of the few creatures that exist that are entirely made of mana. If they run out of it they die. I'm wondering how they'd react to being suffocated like that. They don't need air, and there's never been a way to remove mana like that before." Verona says and I nod, curious myself. "Eric, could you show me more of those spells? From the Annihilation School?"

"Yeah, what do you want to see?" I ask and she smiles, her eye sparkles and Gaia sighs.
