A Cleaner's Job

"So, how does this whole cleaner thing work?" Amelia ask.

"It's pretty simple really, find a place associated with a lot of negative things and create an Illusionary Barrier around it. If you will it to gather the negative idea power of the area, Gaia will do the rest for you. Gaia also doesn't want demons running around messing with the human world. The negative power will condense into demons on their own and all you need to do is kill them." Alex explain. It would probably be a lot harder without Gaia's help but with it, it becomes as simple as an extermination job... assuming you have enough power for it.

"I see. So... how do you create an Illusionary Barrier?" Amelia asks again.

Before Alex can explain, Lily interrupts, "Is Amelia by any chance, new to the Abyss?" She wonders.

"Yeah, she's a late bloomer like me. Knowing her, she will jump head first into the Abyss so I'm helping her out before she can do something stupid."

Lily nods in understanding, "Since that's the case, I'll offer my help when needed."

"Thanks, Lily." Alex says, making Lily smile happily at being praised.

"Now, back to what I was saying. Creating an Illusionary Barrier is pretty simple. Wait," Alex paused, "We're here so I might as well show you." Here is the area of a fight between a few gangs last year. Quite a few people died and it was all over the news leading to a lot of negative feelings being associated with this place.

"All you have to do is gather mana in your hand and release it into the surroundings while thinking about creating an Illusionary Barrier and what type of barrier you want to create. As I told you before, Gaia will do the rest." Alex explain and as he did, he raise a hand into the air. It starts to glow blue for a second before a wave of mana spread into the area. They feel a sort of unexplainable "shift" in the area before the place becomes devoid of signs of life.

"Woah... that feels weird." Amelia commented.

"Yeah. Now get ready. Demons will start appearing any second now. We want to take them out as soon as they appear or they are going to overwhelm us with numbers. Lily, can you protect Amelia while she figures out her power?" Alex ask.

Lily nods with a determined look, "You can count on me."

"As for you," Alex pulls out a few items from his pocket and hands them to Amelia. Among them are a sword, an amulet, and a ring. "I would have given these to you along with your armor but I didn't have them at the time." He pulled them from their respective books shortly before they set off. It's why he needed 20 minutes to get ready. Otherwise, it'll take less than 5 minutes to put on his outfit since he has everything on him at all times.

"The sword is a Zanpakuto. It doesn't do any of the stuff you see in the manga or anime because you need years of training to do that but it allows you to hit ghosts and incorporeal beings so it'll be useful for you to learn how to use it. The amulet is an Amulet of Proof Against Detection and Location from D&D. It protects you from divination magic and magical scrying/sensors, a useful item in general since it'll keep you unknown from the various groups that like to kidnap people in the Abyss. Last but not least is the Ring of Mind Shielding, also from D&D. Like the name suggests, it protects your mind from being read among other things."

"Awesome." Amelia exclaims as she uses Observe on the item. Alex is curious about what it says about the sword so he takes a look at the screen.

An unnamed Zanpakuto that belongs to no one. By infusing your spiritual power(MP) into the Zanpakuto and meditating with it, it'll slowly become yours and take on an aspect of yourself. Only once the sword fully becomes yours can you make use of its true power.

"Huh, neat. So that's how you unlock its power." Alex commented. If he had known that, he would have done that sooner. So far he's only been using it like a normal sword.

Before they can get to the other two items, an inhuman groan caught their attention. A black blob of undefined shape is making its way toward them.

As if by instinct at this point, Amelia use Observe on the blob monster.

"That's a demon? I expected them to be more... I don't know, menacing?" Amelia asks, sounding a bit disappointed.

"It's the lowest class demon, a demon spawn. Once it eats enough negative feelings, idea power, and other energy, it'll evolve into a Lesser Demon. Those are a lot stronger and scarier. I doubt we would be able to take on a Lesser Demon even if we go all out as we currently are." Alex explain. There have been multiple cases of Lesser Demon wiping out small guilds because they were too lazy to do their job properly.

"So kill blob demon before they can become scary?" Amelia ask.

"Exactly."

Before the demon spawn can get close, Alex pulls out his own Zanpakuto. It glows blue with mana before Alex slices toward the demon, sending a wave of energy at it, cutting it in half. This doesn't kill it immediately as the two halves try to merge. Before they can though, Alex slices them a few more times, turning them into half a dozen species before they finally die and evaporate into the air.

"Huh?" Alex blinks as a screen appear in front of him. He wasn't expecting that.

"That was awesome! And I got XP from that! This means I can grind for XP! Even awesomer!" Amelia cheers. Alex doubts awesomer is a real word but he's too busy thinking at the moment to correct her.

"I see." Alex concludes that it must be a part of Amelia's power. It seems that inviting him to a party with her did more than allow him to see her screens. If he's also able to gain XP as she did, it'll speed up his growth by quite a bit.

"XP? Grind?" Lily asks, confused about the whole situation.

"It's Amelia's Innate Power. She has the power of a game character which allows her to grow stronger by killing monsters among other things. It seems she can share this trait of her with other people." Alex explain.

"That seems quite powerful." Lily comments.

"It is if used correctly. On that note, Amelia, invites Lily to the party too. If she's going to be helping you, she might she should also benefit from it." Alex order.

"Oh yeah, why didn't I think of that. Invite Lillian Gray." Amelia says, causing a screen to appear in front of Lily, surprising her. As she was doing that, more demons start to appear.

"Just click yes." Alex tells her while heading to kill the next demon. Shortly afterward, he gets another pop-up telling him that Lily joined the party.
