4. A Meeting with HR
The last thirty seconds were a blur.
Zinnia ran off, saying she was reporting him to HR. Greg began to hyperventilate. He wasn't sure what he could do. He had nothing - no family lived here, no one was really his friend. He was miserable. This job was all he had currently.
He grabbed for his phone, only to see all of his tasks were crossed off. He figured there was nothing better to do as he waited.
Don't get fired.
That was all he could do before Lou, a balding, overweight security guard, showed up.
"Hey Greg, Dani wants you in her office ASAP," he said, pointing out the door. Greg could feel the eyes of everyone on him. They glowered at him. Hated him for what had happened. He looked down at his phone.
Stop being hated at work.
Get Zinnia to stop being mad.
He let out a big sigh as he entered into Dani's office. A blonde woman with her hair in a well-kept bun sat behind the desk, her blouse doing a great job of hiding her figure.
"Greg, Zinnia says you groped her. Is that true?"
"Y-" Greg could hear a soft noise. "On accident. I had tripped and fell and landed on Zinnia. I didn't get a chance to apologize yet." He turned to Zinnia. "Sorry. Are you okay?"
Zinnia straightened up. "So it was… an accident?" she asked incredulously.
"One hundred percent. I didn't mean to do that like that."
"You didn't mean…" Zinnia let hang.
"To fall on you and grope you like that," he said, his wording being oddly specific. It wasn't exactly what he had meant to say. It was close enough though.
"And how did you mean to grope me then?" she asked, anger seething in her voice.
"Preferably like how you flashed me earlier today!" he snapped back. "Quickly and in my office!" He suddenly realized what he had said, the noise getting louder.
"I'm sorry, Zinnia, you flashed Greg in his office earlier?" Dani asked, arching an eyebrow.
"I don't see how that's relevant!" she accused.
"You can't see how that wouldn't make him think it was okay?" Dani asked. "If I were to flash you, wouldn't you assume I was into you?" She rolled her eyes at Zinnia, then looked at Greg. "I'll get this smoothed over for you, Gregory. Don't worry about it. And Zinnia?" Dani said. "Apologize for leading Greg on."
"But I wasn't!" she insisted.
"Zinnia?" Greg began. "I'm sorry, it was an accident, really. And I did like that you flashed me, even if it was unexpected. Maybe because it was. It wasn't… the way I expected to be told good job, but it was good." Greg felt a flush come over his face as that sentence got away from him.
"Well, it sounds like we're good. Be more appropriate at work Zinnia. And Greg, be more careful." Dani said as Greg left her office.
As he returned to his desk, the glances turned away. The stares stopped. There was still an unease in the air, but it was better.
He didn't lose his job. If anything, Zinnia might be the one in trouble.
There was no fucking way the app worked the way he thought it did. It was hippie new age crunchy granola bullshit, right?
