Chapter 51 by Corruption Corruption

“We have a lot to do.”

“What can be done?”

The lawyer asks the gofer.

He smiles, “Show we are taking control of matters to stop such issues. Working with the law is a start, and seeing what we can do to limit the damage. Find out what the programmers were thinking, and get marketing in on this as they are the ones who should have been seeing what the trends there are. After all, they would have told the programmers what to do.”

Thinking about things, “We need a way to punish only those who harm people. I don’t know what we can do about by-passing **** laws using demi-humans right now.”

The lawyer told the CEO, “Henry, we are going to need to get more people involved and go over a lot of obscure laws. Considering that Shards is international, we need to find out what laws we are breaking there. I may be able to cover us for a little while, but we need the PR specialists to go full out.”

The CEO shakes his head, “Dammit Jason, using what information! We don’t even know all the details!”

He faces the gofer, “Lad, sorry about this, but I never did ask your name. What is it?”

“Samuel Catlin.”

“Sam, you seem to know what you are doing. What is your view on this?”

Sam thought for a minute. “Find out what else Garion is telling everyone. Send a mod to speak with him, asking him to tell the mod about these things so we can sort them out before they become well known. Tell the media that we are researching the matter, going back over 20 years of programming choices made before any of the current decision makers were employed here, looking at the international implications, and trying to find ways to sort the issues.

“That is a temporary measure. All the people who make decisions for the game should also be Players just so they know what is going on. I doubt any of them were Players, or they would have raised warnings beforehand. If some are currently Players, find out why the fuck they did not warn anyone just how bad it was!”

There was nodding at that. Basically blaming the previous management for setting up the flawed system was a good old trick. By sending people in as Players, they keep track on things.

Sam thought and added, “If they ask when you are going to change things, tell them that you are trying to figure out all the issues so far, and know a knee jerk reaction could make things worse.”

The two old men looked at each other with nasty smiles.

The only question they had was:

Can they pull it off?
