Chapter 2 by AeylinFaith AeylinFaith

All they knew was that they must survive.

[P] Aeylin, Centaur (Herm)

Aeylin was interrupted in her bath, only her fellow brothers and sisters from the Order of the Angelic Guard were allowed to breach in unannounced. After a brief banging on the door, they swung open.

"My queen, a new rift has opened beyond the valley, Valkyries are en route to hold the line in case anything attempts to cross. The hunter that spotted the rift is safe and hasn't discovered any tracks but we urge you to investigate!"

{Queen.. a title I'll never get used to. But I suppose someone has to carry its burden, the people need someone to aspire to, someone to trust and follow. It's been a title granted to the highest-ranking Valkyrie, even if the order of the 'Angelic Guard' didn't truly believe in rank.. Each and everyone was equal, and we all must do our part. It hasn't been the first time I've dealt with a rift, but they seem to be far more common in recent years. Almost as if 'the realms' are out of balance or somehow fusing into one another..}
"Thank you Ishizu, I'll make way at once"

Ishizu approached her to aid the Centaurus in stepping out of the bath, they'd seen each other for all they were plenty of times and had no shame or alternate feelings for one another, while they loved each other it wasn't in the romantic sense, even if they weren't biologically related, the term brothers and sisters referred to their order. Both of them simply found arousal too distracting and distracted themselves with duty. Carefully standing upright and placing a hoof outside of the bath, Ishizu guided her out. The mare's bulging orbs dangled heavy and low beneath her hindlegs, the leathery sack coated in a gloss due to the warm bath. Ishizu handed Aeylin a towel while she herself used another to work on the mare's lower body to dry the hard-to-reach places for the 'Mare'.

Ishizu handed the mare her cloth piece and aided in wrapping it around the delicate private parts of the mare, draping it over her hindquarters. It was then that the both parted ways.
Aeylin snatched her bow and quiver as she troted past the guards, each giving her a nod as she would hate for them to bow. One actually correcting themselves as the power of habit had him bending ever so slightly.

Normally she'd like to take time to connect to the locals but this simply wasn't the time, and her people knew better not to get in the way of the guard, especially their Queen. She'd reached the rift around sundown with no signs of her fellow 'brothers and sisters'..

She blew a whistle that hung from her neck, the sound like that of a birdsong that wouldn't alert anyone unfamiliar with nature's natural ambiance.

No return.

She approached the sight of the rift with caution, using both the cover of nightfall and the bushes and branches ahead. Through the clearing, she could see the rift, a warping mass that distorted the very fabric of reality. Looking at it directly made you question whether it's a fata morgana or an invisible fire.. Aeylin knew it was neither. She blew the whistle and again was left with no response, her heart started to beat faster in her chest while she approached the portal. There was no knowing which realm lay beyond and the only way to do so was to cross the planes through the very rift that formed here. One thing was certain.. once crossed she could return and it would lead her straight back to where she entered.. or so she thought.

What's next?
