[GM rolls an encounter]

Adva and Lali begin the long walk up. They walk mostly in silence, trying not to attract attention the way Adva had earlier. Suddenly, Lali stops to kneel and touch the ground. Her hand comes up covered in a sticky, translucent substance. She examines it for a moment.

“Adva darling, I think it would be wise for us to backtrack to that alcove we saw earlier.”

“What did you find?”

“I’ve been in these tunnels longer than you, and I can recognize the slime left by a gelatinous cube when I see it. It’s not something I want to tangle with today.”

Adva nods, trusting her new friend’s expertise. They begin to walk slowly back.

[GM: roll + caution for both of them vs the cube’s caution (1d20 -4 = 15).]

[P: Adva (1d20 +2 = 9) and Lali (1d20 +0 = 2).]

As she steps back, Lali slips on part of the cube’s slime trail she hadn’t noticed earlier. She falls to the ground hard with her sword clattering beside her.

“Oh! Lali! Careful!” Adva exclaims with surprise as she lends her friend a hand to get up, not realizing how loud she’s been.

Lali claps a hand over Adva’s mouth and hisses “quiet!”

In the silence that follows, they hear the sound of something wet moving toward them. Adva looks down the tunnel as a translucent cube of slime moves toward them.
