Chapter 24

Whattaya do?
Study at your desk!
{if@ Time < 4}Hey, you've got your very own desk! Taking a seat at it, just to feel the soft chair and rub your hands over the smooth wood, you bask in the glory that is personal responsibility. This is so cool... but, wait, what are you doing?! You don't even know what to study right now! Neither of your classes have been for real yet!
You stand up quickly, and look back around the room for something to occupy yourself with.
{elseif Time == 4}{if LectureListen1 == True}Hey, nice, you've got something to study now! Kinda. There's not a test on the lectures or anything. But still, you can write about it! If you go too long without writing anything, your handwriting might get all weird.
You write for a little bit about the stuff you heard today, but it's mostly dot points and ramblings that even you find hard to understand when you read them back. Then you do some nice drawings on the side! Hey, with doing stuff like this, you're gonna associate this desk as your proper workspace. That'll be so good for when you've got stuff you really need to study! Look at you, you little worker bee.{else}Hey, you could totally do some notes about what you heard in the lecture! Except you didn't hear much. Bummer. At least it's not being tested. You're probably better off getting up from your desk now -- but once you have some information to study, it's gonna be such a crucial tool!{endif}
{elseif Time == 5}You scribble a lil bit.
There's not much to write about right now, even if this desk's gonna come in so handy once the studying really hits in the later weeks, but you do a wicked cool drawing of two giraffes. They have their necks wrapped around each other, like they're hugging. It's really nice, and you show Cameron, and he totally agrees. Good job.
{elseif Time == 6}There's still not all that much stuff for you to study, but you're super duper hyped about your equipment! So why not take the time to sit down at your desk and think about it?
..........
Hmmmmm....... yep, really cool! But still, you've not got anything to study yet. Wait, Ben talked about Giants, didn't he? What'd he say? They're big? Write that down. That might be on the exam later in the year.
{elseif Time == 7}There's still not all that much in the way of "theory study" for you to do, but you did just have Equipment Maintenance for the first time!{if BatonVolt == True} Pretty cool that your batons are all extra-electric and stuff now, hey?{elseif MagnetShield == True} And now your shield does some of the work for you, so that rocks a lot.{elseif RocketSledgeaxe == True} And now your Sledgeaxe does some of the swinging work for you, so that bops hard.{elseif ExplosiveShots == True} And now your bullets can blow up, so that's super duper rad. You might not be able to use those ones against classmates, though.{else} ......which you skipped. Still, though, it's the thought that counts.{endif}
You decide it's in your best interests to just have some fun with a couple of sketches for a few minutes, then stand back up from your desk to look around your room for something else to do.
{elseif Time == 8}{if StaffCombat == True}Hey, that staff combat was fun! It's not really a thing you can study though -- {else}You didn't exactly have a chance to focus during Combat Class, but that's okay -- {endif}studying will only really come into play later on, when exams are on the horizon. Actually, that's not far away, especially since you've nearly finished your first week here, so you're probably getting into all the right habits by coming to this desk anyway! It's not like you're wasting any of your Free Time, since it's so quick to only pretend to study.
{if StaffCombat == True}You want to try sketching the techniques you learned, with really detailed bodies and stuff doing the blocks and strikes, with motion lines and those crosses on sketches' bodies and faces and stuff, but you give it a go and remember that you cannot do any of that. Ben's a great artist, you were sorta hoping it'd have rubbed off on you.... but hey, you've got heart, and nothing's gonna get you down!
So you take about ten minutes to draw the techniques with only stick figures instead, and that makes you feel pretty happy. You get bored before you get through them all, but it was fun while it was happening! Now to leave those papers on your desk forever and ever and never use them but never throw them out either.{endif}
{elseif Time == 9}Last chance to do anything before the weekend! You don't exactly have a bunch to study from First Aid class,{if CumSuccess == 3} since it was mainly just Nurse Riley moaning and being all soft and post-orgasmic,{else} since it was all pretty hands-on for the most part (and you sorta don't wanna anyway because it probably won't be examined),{endif} but you take the opportunity to draw a nice little portrait of you and all of your friends. Your artistic ability isn't huge, but you know what each shape represents, and the drawing is more about that anyway.
Let's see, there's Lexi,{if Cameron's Impression > 59} Cameron.... you draw in{elseif OopsToffee == True} Cameron (even though you two could be better, he did help save you from that group of evil girls).... oh, you should totally draw in that weird orange cat that helped out too! You do. You draw in{endif}{if Jace's Impression >64} Jace,{endif}{if Miranda's Impression >69} Miranda,{endif}{if NewtonGym == True} Newton (your ol' lifting buddy!),{endif}{if ArenaAccess == True} Nora (your pretty cuddle buddy!),{endif} a stick figure you made up with a funny hat on, and..... oh, don't forget to draw in yourself! Maybe Professor Phoebe too. You haven't really talked that much with Ben since you got here, because you've both been busy with all the stuff you've got to do, but he's been your best friend for years and years so you add him in the drawing too.{if LolaSuck == True} Your pussy has this really weird twitch when you think about whether or not you should add Lola in... i-ignore it for now!!{endif}{if Sorority == True} You put that group of girls in at the side as well, without much detail on most of their stick figure heads because to be honest only three really stood out to you, and that fills up the rest of the space quite nicely.{elseif ArgentEnemy == True} You sure don't put that group of girls anywhere in the picture!{endif}
There might be a few more people, but that should do it for now.... it looks so good! You hold it up to look over your handiwork, face beaming, then delicately place it into one of your desk drawers for safekeeping. That's a nice thing to have, even if you might lose it eventually. But, for right now, that's probably all that you can do at your desk, so.....
{elseif Time == 10}Yeah, this baby is really gonna come in handy this week, when all of your classes ramp up in difficulty.... you rub your hands along its top, smiling to yourself. You don't have anything to study just yet, since you only just got back, but you're just having fun thinking about all the work you're gonna be able to get done at this desk once classes begin for real. It's gonna be so cool!
You sit down at the desk and grab a piece of paper, for practice. You do the page-wide scribble writing that's always in cartoons, getting a feel for writing on the desk, and BOY does it feel great! You'll be writing up essays on Monster Theory and inventing new medicines for First Aid class in no time, with this baby at your fingertips! But that's all for later -- for right now, you stand up out of your desk again, and turn around to get back to your room to enjoy the rest of your lunchtime.
{elseif Time == 11}Yeah, wooo! Studying! Studying time! Now, that is!
Problem. You don't have a recording of Ben's class or anything, you just have the tiny bit of writing that you did in your notebook. Like, properly tiny. Very small. You could read over it, but that would be a very short study session probably. What you really need is some sort of material to take more notes off of.....
"CAMERON!" You quickly shout. He lifts his head from where he's lying on the ground like a starfish to look at you. "CAN I LOOK AT YOUR NOTEBOOK PLEASE."
"My- yeah, sure, for Monster Theory?"
"BECAUSE I WASN'T PAYING ATTENTION."
Cameron blinks at you as you stare back and down at him from your desk's chair. "Okay. And, um, why do you need it then?" He asks.
"BECAU- oh. Oh, sorry, yes I'd like your Monster Theory notebook please." You say politely, even though you think he might've just been sarcastic at you. Cameron peels himself up from the carpet, still pretty worn out from all of the heavy punching and fighting he just had to do, and walks over to where he threw his bag into the room's corner.
"You know," He says, stretching back up from being bent over, holding his class workbook. "I can help you out if you'd like. I might've used a bit too much shorthand for these to be super understandable."
That would be very nice actually, because there are odds that you will just stop taking notes a handful of seconds into this. But you're really not sure if it'd be okay, {if Cameron's Impression<50}since you haven't been super nice with him, {endif}and you don't want to be a hassle.
"I'm okay." You say with a small smile. He stops one step from the desk, holding the workbook in front of his chest with both hands and holding your gaze unwaveringly. D-did you say something wrong? He keeps staring right at you for many more seconds than you would have expected the scenario to beget, and you shift around in your seat nervously. Eventually, and much to your relief, he finally speaks.
"Debbie, my handwriting is very bad." He says. "You will not be able to read it. I am trying to save you."
You two stare at each other for a good while longer after that, as you blink at him. His grip on the book tightens.
"I- listen, you don't want to see this. Let me narrate."
After a short hesitation longer, you eventually accept, though you do try to sneak a few unsuccessful peeks at his writing. The two of you spent the next half-hour or so with you on the chair and Cameron leaning on the desk's corner, reading out information from his workbook and answering any questions that you ask which he knows the answer to. He tells you what nocturnal means, but not if everybody sees the same colour when they talk about blue and if swapping eyes would make the world look all different. He does, however, say that it would be funny if that was the case and it turned out everyone had the same favourite colour but just called it a different name. So that puts you at a bit of ease. That question always gets you a bit frantic.
But success! By the end, you've got down everything that Cameron had in his book, and you think you'll hopefully remember most of it. But even if you don't, you can just read it from here later now! Haha, take that, stupid idiot brain dumb mind idiot brains. Your strategy is foolproof, and you are feeling very virtuous about the work you just put in. Maybe that written stuff won't be so hard after all!
+1 Study Point! (that'll come in handy later)
{elseif Time == 12}Study, studious girl, study!
You sit down at your desk happily, and run your hands over the top of it. Feels good. Feels like the start of a successful learning experience.
You take out a workbook from your bag, and plop it down onto the table. Here's the deal -- right now, you remember most of the basics about treating venom wounds and such. But from experience, you know that that will not be the case forever! In fact, the longest that knowledge will stay in your head unassisted is most likely right up until the day before exams.
So, in a stroke of genius, you've decided to write some of what you remember down, while you still remember it. That way, later on, you'll be able to read over it and remember again! Plus, you're pretty sure that writing stuff down helps you remember it, but that might be a myth, since you know that idea from hearing it somewhere and have never once written it down. Still, it's worth the risk!
You take a decent amount of time, roughly half of lunchtime, writing down what you remember about the different ways to treat basic venomous wounds, and proper treatment after that fact. First Aid class has a sort of misleading name, something like "First Four to Five Aid" would probably be more fitting.
It would probably have taken you less time if you hadn't taken so many breaks to look out the window and draw sketches on the sides of the pages, but those were necessary sacrifices to keep yourself in the chair. By the end, you've got a pretty extensive set of notes spanning two pages and encompassing every detail that you remember from class, while it's still fresh -- even if it might've taken a bit longer. You're feeling virtuous, intelligent, and like you're really gonna be prepared for exams when they come up! Good for you, you're doing a really good job.
+1 Study Point! (that'll come in handy later)
{elseif Time == 13}This is her. This is the one, officer -- the girl who studies and writes notes, so that she won't be stressed out and devoid of Free Time during the exam period. BAG HER!
Luckily for you, they must've been talking about someone else, because they've not caught you yet and if you stay on your toes they never will. Checking the hallways outside your room door and peeking through the window briefly, because playing pretend is lots of fun, you sit down at your desk and get out some notebooks for studying what was covered in Monster Theory.
What scares a monster away? Making the benefits of staying not worth the downsides! Or at least, making it appear like that. You can do this a bunch of different ways, like targeting leaders, being over-the-top and showoff-y to make yourself look insurmountable, being totally unseen while you attack them, even if the attacks aren't any stronger than you'd be doing if they could see you.... what else? Oh, that's right! Making yourself or your group appear to be in larger numbers than you are, making it appear that the area is a complete killzone by filling it up with tons of fake dead stuff (like people do at parts of the Western Kokkinport wall, to keep away monsters), using blinding and powerful-looking things that are beyond the monsters' comprehension.....
The ideas just keep flowing out of you and onto the page, like a dam's been broken. You even surprise yourself with how much you retained! It must be something about the way class was done with whispers, that made it stick in your head more even though you were daydreaming.
.......
Okay, yeah, no. You got to about the first question and then you were stuck. Luckily, the proper authorities haven't caught your roommate and partner-in-studying-crime Cameron either, so after a long stint of staring blankly at the page, you're able to sheepishly ask him for help by narrating parts of his own book.
But hey! The results are the same! You get a page and a half of Monster Theory notes, and some proper information retention by writing it all down. Add that with the little bit of notes you already took in class for Lexi's sake, and you're looking absolutely gorgeous. You thank Cameron, who nods and then goes to sit by his radiator again.
+1 Study Point! (that'll come in handy later)
{elseif Time == 14}{if CameronDreamTalk == 0}You could look over those notes Miranda gave you, but that'd be a good bit of your Free Time dedicated to it. Probably even more than if you worked with her, since there wouldn't be anyone to explain things and answer your questions.
So, for the same reasons you decided to pass on the offer at the time, you pass on it to yourself right now! Although you do still slide the workbook into a desk drawer for future use. It'll probably come in really handy sometime.{else}Right now, you've not got anything fresh in your brain that needs studying. It's hard to study things when you're not right out of a class, and it's meaningless to study things when you already know and remember them, that's what you always say! So that's how you'd like to do your lil early exam study sessions, as a rule.
For now you just do some doodles on a piece of paper, which look a little bit better than the last time you did doodles because you are a constantly improving work ethic MACHINE, and then set it aside and stand up from your desk again.{endif}
{elseif Time == 15}You're really not in any brain space to study right now, with how exhausted you are from Combat Class. And.... you know, other stuff too. Made you pretty tired. And forgetful.... s-so, for now you just do some doodles on a piece of paper, which look a little bit better than the last time you did doodles because you are a constantly improving work ethic MACHINE, and then set it aside and stand up from your desk again.
{elseif Time == 16}Alright, here goes! You crack your knuckles and get ready, opening up a notebook and uncapping a pen. You're gonna go through and make notes about what was taught to you this last First Aid class, and you're gonna do it fast. And very very well, too!
In a breeze of pen-on-paper based motion, you spend the next twenty-or-so minutes jotting down notes and reminders for everything you remember, which you're pretty sure is most of it. The friction alone almost gives you a heat stroke, but eventually, you finish and set your pen down on the desk with a heavy slap and a sigh of relief, reaching up a hand to wipe the sweat from your forehead.
Aahh, that'll do it. There's nothing like hard work and success, right? You beam proudly down at the completed quarter-page of First Aid notes you've made, and the two other pages of funny drawings of disproportionately wheeled cars. Those are hard to keep consistent, but with so much more practice under your belt now, you'll be getting it right in no time.
+1 Study Point! (that'll come in handy later)
{elseif Time == 17}......
S-so..... studying. Hm. You weren't actually there for Stealth class, so it wouldn't be right to make stuff up and take notes. But you still feel like maybe you should do at least something.
.....
"Cameron!" You call out, leaning back heavily on your desk chair.
"Y-yeah?"
"I'm gonna hide. Try to find me."
"O-okay...."
Hee hee! You get up out of your chair and quickly whip your head around, looking for a good spot.{if Bed >0} Under the bed? No, too obvious!{endif}{if MassageAssemble == False} Behind the box the Massage Chair's in?{else} Behind the {if MassageBreak == True}broken {endif}Massage Chair?{endif} If you're feeling particularly mean, you could leave the room entirely, but that would be more funny than something to help you study Stealth.
Alright, you've decided! You get on your hands and knees and crawl under the desk.
"Ready!" You shout. Cameron walks up to the front of the desk and points at you. Drat. Maybe you can't study a class you didn't attend after all....
{if NoteTaSelfFool == True}make sure you set SomethingToStudy to True if it is, buddeh{endif}{endif}
