Chapter 47 by Ai-R Ai-R

Where do I start?

(False) Smile → (False) Smirk

Alright. How to change a phrase without changing a phrase...? Cause some kind of ripple-effect? I glance over the warped phrases again. Part of one seems a little... less solid than the other: more malleable. So let's try to adjust that a little, starting with the 'safer' phrase. I target the phrase 'False Smile' but just as I consider what to replace it with to help defuse the situation... I feel a spike of pain as the phrase changes unprompted.

'False Smile' → 'False Smirk.'

The window vanishes as the hallway twists around us, putting us in the mist of a hallway rather than the crossroads. Meanwhile, Esme's dress grows a little tighter and her expression less gentle and more wicked. Her scepter no longer grows quite as brightly but it feels like the demon is a less skilled actor now. Or just more confident in its hold.

I feel like those distorted phrases have seared their way deeper into reality, but that's somehow the least of my concerns: The 'something' which is keeping me from changing them just used the app. It seems like it can only do so when I'm already targeting a phrase but... somehow, there are two of us making changes here. If I'm going to succeed, I can't afford to hesitate.
