(Author’s Rant)

Ok, I dunno if it’s the way I write or what, but I’ve been doing this for over five years now. I’ve tried not to be that guy. And in the end it doesn’t really matter all that much. But I just want to understand…

When I enjoy a chapter, I leave a “like” on it. If I “Favorite” a story it’s because I enjoy it, and I’ve probably already liked all the chapters in it, seeing as all favorite does is let you know when there’s a new update and let the author know that someone is reading each chapter as they come out theoretically. Bookmarking is pretty much useless unless you’re incognito browsing and killing all your tabs every time you log out. I get that. But it’s a hassle to remove the old bookmarks… still, I see its use if you don’t want to bother favoriting a story as it does the same thing, alert the reader when the author tacks anything on to that chapter.

What I don’t get, and I’m hoping y’all will help me understand, is if my readers, and for this story, there are about 80 who have stuck with it so far, are actually enjoying what I’m putting out there on the internet, taking the time to bookmark chapters when they’ve already gone if of their way to favorite the story, reading each new chapter as it comes out…

Hell… if you like what I’m writing, “like” it. You don’t have a limited number of them sitting around. It helps a lot with motivation to continue doing something that I don’t and never will get paid for (there will never be a Patreon or SubscribeStar attached to my name). If you don’t like what I’m writing, why the hell are you still reading it? If there’s something I’m doing that ticks you off but for whatever reason you’re still here, tell me in the comments. I don’t want to beg, but for fucks sake, I really am struggling to understand here.

Now, I’m not expecting a deluge of likes and comments following this, and some of y’all will probably stop reading me entirely. That’s ok. As I’ve said elsewhere numerous times, I write for me first and foremost. As such, I will inevitably continue to do so regardless of what you folks do. I’d just like a little perspective on my readership.
