Chapter 11

What's next?
Persephone v Aphrodite
{if Court round == 1}
You see a woman walk in, wearing a light pink toga, flowers sprouting as she walks, fading within a minute or two of when she last stepped there. The judge gives a sharp look to Aphrodite, whose mouth was in the middle of opening. Behind the woman who just arrived is a cloaked figure. "Macaria, please remove your hood while within court." "Yes, your honor." The hood falls back, revealing a round face framed with wavy golden hair, eyes brown. The two take seats on the prosecution's side, Macaria pulling up a chair from the audience rows.
"I want a lawyer too," Aphrodite cries. The judge retorts, "you have the opportunity to bring one same as the rest of the gods." "Yeah but we hardly ever use her cause we're mostly suing each other. Persephone and Hades are the only ones who ever bring someone else." The judge raises an eyebrow. "It's not as if you didn't know who the prosecution would be before you arrived." Upon hearing no further argument from Aphrodite, she proceeds.
"Today's case is on the matter of who this cleric next to me is truly dedicated to, as evidence has been brought forth by the prosecution as to question their loyalties to the defense. The prosecution will be Persephone and the defense will be the impulsive Aphrodite. Per agreements dating back centuries between the two here today, this trial will occur over the course of five rounds. The first will be on the matter of oppression, the second on the matter of passion, the third on the matter of nature, the fourth on the matter of dedication, and the fifth on the matter of methodology." She looks up from her notes, seeing if either side has a response. "Let the trial begin." You feel yourself subjected to a truth spell, and find yourself unable to resist its effects. Whatever you state, it must be the truth.
Macaria stands up and walks towards you, "Miss da Vecci, Persephone and you have a similar backstory: you were both raised in oppressive environments. Obviously for you, Cyllian is a city which does not look kindly upon women. However, if you were to simply get a bit of money you could flee to the Empire, the northern kingdoms, or Tono, all of whom give women basic rights. Persephone was raised under the wing of Zeus and Demeter. Zeus is largely absent as a father, largely thanks to his wife Hera, and Demeter is possessive, being extremely attached to her children. Rather than attempt to overthrow Zeus like some misguided radical, Persephone departed for other lands so to speak." "HEY! OBJECTION! INSULTING THE DEFENSE!" "That's not a thing, Aphrodite, overruled." "When it comes down to it, would you rather flee your homeland or attempt to liberate it, in spite of lack of plan for either at the moment in this scenario?"
{elseif Court round == 2}
Macaria takes her seat. "That concludes round one." {if Prosecution points > 0}Aphrodite stands up, and walks over to you. "You might wish to hold out on wanting to flee, Cecillia. A revolution may just be brewing in Cyllian. Stay with me and I'll help you through it. {else}"{endif}Anyhow, this round is all about passion - my area of expertise if you will. Simply put, passion demands that you find a way to overcome your obstacles. After all, your desires are the most important, and anything that obstructs your will is obviously bad, right? Some people, however, are content to settle for mediocrity, not wishing to take a risk. While safer, they often find their lives lacking - I've yet to hear any regrets from anyone who decided to live for purpose of pursuing their passions. When it comes down to it, do you want to pursue your passions, or play it safe?"
{elseif Court round == 3}
{if tempAlpha = true}"Then remember that as you answer the remaining questions, and let it fuel your spirit." {endif}Aphrodite makes her way back to her seat, the judge stating "that concludes round two." Macaria stands up and approaches you. "Miss da Vecci, my client's primary area of expertise is nature. If you are to pursue her, you will need to be dedicated to such. So let me ask you: are you prepared to focus on nature and the ecosystem as your top priority?" The sudden point blank question without any dressing catches you off guard. Well, are you?
{elseif Court round == 4}
Macaria returns to her seat, beginning to discuss with Persephone on a number of things, too low to hear. "That concludes round three." Seeing Aphrodite remain seated, her eyes looking into the distance, the judge states, "Aphrodite, you have the floor for round four." She blinks and stands up, approaching you. "So, Cecillia, on the matter of having too many things on your plate. Suppose you're in the middle of a project and something else comes up. This other thing is, of course, way more interesting and fulfilling than the other thing you were doing. Are you gonna keep on with the previous thing, and settle for mediocrity, or pursue that other thing, living life to the fullest?" You glance over to see Macaria, brow furrowed and looking as if a lemon pushed her lips in, clearly wanting to say something.
{elseif Court round == 5}
As Aphrodite walks back to her seat, hips gently swaying as she walks, you hear next to you "that concludes round four." Macaria stands up, and moves towards the front of the witness stand. "Miss da Vecci, once you've set out to do something, how you do it often matters as much if not more than what you do. Do you prefer to build up indirect actions towards a goal, or address your goal directly?"
{elseif Court round == 6}
"And that concludes the case of Persephone v Aphrodite in the matter of the cleric to my left."{if Prosecution points > 2} "I judge Persephone to have won this case. {if Prosecution points > 4}However, due to the cleric in question's total betrayal of Aphrodite, they are ordered to forfeit all gifts Aphrodite gave her on initial dedication. {elseif Prosecution points > 3}However, her new cleric is ordered to forfeit the spell Aphrodite granted her on initial dedication. {else}However, due to her still partial loyalty to Aphrodite, she may keep the spell Aphrodite initially granted her, although she may reclaim the boons of ability she granted her on initial dedication.{endif}{else} "I judge Aphrodite to have won this case. Persephone is ordered to surrender all current claim to her cleric.{endif} All parties may return at once." And with that, she returns to weaving. Both groups: Persephone and Macaria, and Aphrodite, vanish from the court, although you feel that things have changed surrounding you.

Apologies, but these chapters only work well in game mode - too much chapter bloat if I separate it into the five rounds and aftermath.
Below is a short teaser of what can happen in this chapter (sorry, Aphrodite is a lot more interesting as prosecution than defense):
Rather than attempt to overthrow Zeus like some misguided radical, Persephone departed for other lands so to speak." "HEY! OBJECTION! INSULTING THE DEFENSE!" "That's not a thing, Aphrodite, overruled." "When it comes down to it, would you rather flee your homeland or attempt to liberate it, in spite of lack of plan for either at the moment in this scenario?"
{endif}
