Chapter 30 by airwreck airwreck

What did Ryan say?

"Sure."

Ryan looked at Marlissa having fun dancing with Emily and Katie and then looked back at Eva. He decided he was not going to be the wallflower he used to be by moping at the side while everyone else was dancing. "Sure, why not," he said with a roguish smile.

Eva smiled back and took his hand to lead him to the bar.

"What would you like to drink?" Ryan yelled over the thumping music.

"A Cosmopolitan, please," Eva replied in his ear. Ryan could smell the sweet fragrance of her hair. He signaled the cute Asian bartender over and ordered their drinks.

"So I'm curious why you talked to me even after I told you I'm married and my wife is out on the dance floor?" Ryan asked as they waited for their drinks.

"Because you're handsome and don't look like a college douchebag that hangs out here," Eva answered bluntly, gesturing her thumb at the guy standing behind her at the bar.

"Um... thanks," Ryan said, paying for the drinks. He handed Eva her cocktail as they headed to a dark corner table. "Well, I can tell you that I'm definitely not a college douchebag because I'm actually a doctor."

"A doctor?" Eva's brown eyes brightened up.

"I'm an archeologist, not a medical doctor," he corrected.

"Like Indiana Jones?" she said with a smile.

"Yup. I was a big fan of the movies as a kid. That's why I got into archeology," Ryan answered, taking a sip of his beer. "What do you do?"

"I'm a writer for the local newspaper. It's not very exciting covering local news for a small town," Eva replied. She scanned at the dance floor and saw Marlissa still dancing with her two new friends. "Your wife is gorgeous. Is she a model?"

"Everyone says that," Ryan mused, wondering if Marlissa could somehow get a job as a model. "But she's just a housewife who tags along with me on my field research."

"That sounds exciting! Where have you been?"

"Northern Iraq, Syria, and Egypt before all the turmoil in that region," Ryan replied non-nonchalantly. "India, Cambodia, Mexico, Peru, Honduras, Belize, Guatemala, and Greenland. Greenland was the toughest because I had gotten so use to hot climates!"

"So what are you doing in our small town?" Eva asked curiously. Ryan wondered if she was now asking as a reporter.

What did Ryan answer?
