The Ring of Raku

All descendants of Raku when they turn 18 are mysteriously gifted a ring and a notebook. This story follows one such Descendant. It's your 18th Birthday and mixed amongst the many boxes of gifts from family and friends is a small gift box fixed atop a plain black notebook. You slowly go through each gift thanking the gifter. But when you get to the small gift box; your last present; you notice no gift note. "Who gave me this?" you ask. Nobody takes credit so you shrug and open the box.
