Your Best Friend

Madison has been your best friend for years. Ever since high school you have been close with her, but you've always wanted to be more than her friend. Now in college, you decide to share an apartment with her (Hey, saves on rent, right?) Will tonight be the night you end up escaping the friendzone?

You come home to find Madison sitting on the couch, watching TV. You drop the bags of groceries in the kitchenette (Maybe you shouldn't have skimped out on rent). "Hey Madison, whatcha watchin'?"

"Oh hey John" She replies, looking over her shoulder. "I dunno, some Lifetime movie I guess"

"I thought you hated those" you reply, sinking down into the couch next to her.

"Usually yes, but..." she trails off, looking down at her lap.

"Is everything okay Madison? You don't seem like yourself right now. I mean watching Lifetime? Do I need to call a psychiatrist?" you tease.

She slaps your arm. "Jerk," she says, giggling with you. Suddenly, her giggles turn to tears, and she starts sobbing.

"Hey, hey, what's wrong?" you ask, scooching closer to her and putting your arm around her shoulder.

"i-it's nothing" she says, turning to give you a weak, half-hearted smile.

"It's not nothing. We've known each other for years, I can see right through you" you smile. "It's me, your best friend John, you can tell me anything."

She looks up at you with her watery eyes, perfectly framed by her brown hair. You look back down at her, her eyes searching yours. She sobs, then quickly gets up and rushes off to her room, closing the door behind her. "Please John, I don't wanna talk about it right now. I'll tell you everything, just... not now" she practically whispers through the door.
