Words of Power

It has been a long time since a word of power has been spoken, and even longer since it was a full language. Now, nothing but scattered remnants remain...but these remnants are filled with undeniable power. Even a single word of the Old Tongue is a potent tool. On one hand, a single word can unleash madness or stop a heart, but on the other, it can bring bountiful harvests or feelings of joy. No word of the Old Tongue is the same; each has their own use, no matter how specific that may be.

However, there is a reason that the Old Tongue is no longer spoken. Each utterance of a word of power enacts an equivalent cost. For some, they experience sharp pain or debilitating fatigue. For others, they suffer a loss of self or of memories. If a word of power is used too often, a speaker risks permanent harm and even .

But, this can be circumvented. Using words of power repeatedly builds proficiency, which makes it easier and safer to use them again. With enough practice, your proficiency will allow you to utilize words of power more often. In addition, your growing proficiency with your word of power can make it stronger and more effective.

For instance: Relax, Kiyoshi Nakamura, High School Senior. Your word of power should generally be a simple word, as that allows you to use it in more situations. The more specific you make your word, the less you can actually do with it. (Think about the difference between 'No' and 'Restriction'. One is very broad, while the other is much less versatile.)
