Vellitt Boe’s Unsavory Adventures

Whore first, explorer second, even if she says otherwise

Chapter 1 by GideontheNinth GideontheNinth

Vellit Boe looked out towards the sky, thick and filled with the amber of stars and gods. It was strange, looking upon the cosmos today, for it wasn’t the morning sky that looked any different from the usual day. Just her perspective of it.

Today was her first day of exploration, of seeing the world that had been denied to her for so long. Already she walked a well traveled road, keeping an eye out for unsavory folk or worse. The path was well paved, hued stone of an amber white glistened in the sunlight, every one hundred stones a name inscribed of some dead god.

The Dead Road of One Hundred Brick Gods.

Most were like scratches in reality, the very beings once attributed to those designs of language like sunk stones in reality. They had once been above the world’s designs, and when they fell, the world felt it. Their very names being unable to be recorded on any physical medium.

Scars in reality a wise woman had once told Boe. As Boe walked along the path, feeling the gliding speed the expertly crafted road gave her compared to the rough dirt roads her past self had experienced. She looked upon her reflection on the amber stones.

A classic pale tunic covered her torso, hiding her chest bindings, she hoped they would fool any would be assailant. Long cotton leggings that did nothing to show off her rapid well made bottom, the color of purple cream with white accents trailing down. Her backpack was a deep wooden brown, with tint cuts of tan from precise if obvious needlework jutting out.

It was firmly set upon her back. Yet it swung side to side every so often of its own accord. To Boe’s annoyance. Boe’s hair was set in a short pony tail with a green hair tie keeping it from springing out.

From a distance she looked like a particularly feminine boy. A closer look would disabuse that notion rather quickly for the keen eyed. It was only the scowl that uglied her features and the disinterest of fellow travelers she encountered that had saved her.

Who does Boe meet along the road?
