Jack arrived on campus, buzzing with nervous excitement. Today marked the beginning of his university experience, and the magnitude of the transition loomed large in his mind. Navigating the throngs of bustling students, Jack eventually found the auditorium hosting the morning's orientation session.

The event began with speeches from faculty, administrators, and upperclassmen. Amidst the sea of faces, Jack spotted a handful of familiar ones – fellow graduates from his high school days. Connecting with old friends helped ease the anxiety of this foreign environment; soon, Jack discovered that many of them shared similar concerns about the upcoming semester.

As the program concluded, Jack double-checked his schedule and hastily consulted both school bulletin and a campus map to locate his first destination: Calculus with Professor Victoria Cho. Arriving at the lecture hall, he surveyed the interior and noticed a few empty seats near the middle row. Taking a deep breath, Jack approached his designated area and prepared himself mentally for the class ahead.

Professor Cho entered the room shortly afterward, greeting students with a pleasant smile. She wore a simple ensemble consisting of a crisp blazer and tailored pants, perfectly reflecting her precise nature. Once settled, she addressed the assembly, speaking deliberately and gesturing decisively.

"Welcome to Calculus. Over the course of the semester, we shall explore essential mathematical concepts designed to strengthen critical thinking skills and lay a foundation for advanced problem solving strategies."

Jack listened carefully, absorbing the teacher's clear instructions. Beside him, a chatty classmate leaned over and whispered, "Hey, I'm Jess. We had Trigonometry together last semester. Did you pass the AP test or are you retaking it like me?"

Before responding, Jack glanced briefly at Jessica, noting her friendly demeanor and easygoing mannerisms. "Actually, I decided to skip the AP test altogether. Never liked the format, honestly."

Jessica giggled, nodding enthusiastically. "Yeah, me neither! Guess we'll learn together, then."

The pair exchanged relieved smiles, grateful for the budding companionship.

Turning back to the front of the room, Jack observed Professor Cho distributing copies of the syllabus. One particular section caught his attention: office hours. Perhaps visiting her privately could yield insights beneficial to acing the subject matter.

As the orientation commenced, Jack committed himself to actively listen in the discussion. By the final bell, he understood the general flow of the future lessons, and the grading system.
