The Untamed Lands (v.3)

(This story has a game engine that I'm building into it to simulate randomness and track progress. Game mode is essential to the story making any sense. I highly recommend it)

You tighten the last laces of your knee high boots, adjust your sword belt and throw your cloak over one shoulder to give yourself a look in the pitted stand mirror. Today is the day; you don't know if excitement, determination or dread is the most powerful emotion coursing through you as you survey your supple leather armor. It hugs your feminine curves a little more closely than you'd like, but function trumps form when it comes to protection.

"Alexa!" the voice breaks through your quiet study, and you are proud that you don't flinch in surprise, as that would shame your teacher. "Are you ready?" You turn as Sir Oscar enters the room. He is your father's best swordsman, and has trained you since you were 14, all for this day. He trained your sisters, Keilli and Rina, before you. And now you are the last.

For almost a century, the city of Brighthome has fought to keep the encroaching corruption of the Untamed Lands at bay. Once a relatively peaceful wilderness that was easily traversed to reach the far kingdom of Stornesse, the lands have grown dark under the influence of a demon prince, called Uther. Since his awakening, he has turned the lands around Brighthome into a dangerous place, though the sacred wards have kept his influence from the city itself. But passage between the city and the far kingdom will never be secure until the demon prince is put to rest. According the the prophecies, only a maiden of noble blood can fell the dark creature and break his magic, and your father has been determined to be the one whose family secures that great honor. When his first two daughters each failed to return from their quest, the duty has now fallen to you, his youngest.
