After the age of eighteen, any man can receive a pink letter. This letter contains an appointment to be made redundant. Refusal to attend is met with imprisonment and re-education. Many flee but most are caught. Resistance groups were found and re-educated, in a vicious cycle. The youths especially women are indoctrinated and integrated into the pro redundancy society.

The men that are made redundant are sterilised They are given two option sterilisation or full removal becoming an enuch.
